What now? When to throw the towel in...

Well this is my 4th or 5th? (can't remember) DFI Lanparty Ultra B mobo. Frankly I'm fed up with DFI's POS product. Why 4 or 5 you ask? Corrupt bios everytime. Few times I asked for it, but the other 3 or 4 times I did not. Well once again it happend, corrupt bios........

What did I do? I took my case a part a little bit, modded the side window, I took my video card out & switched a few fans around on it. Wow that would surely corrupt your bios. I turn my mobo back on & I got some weird actions. I reset my PC & boom, 4 leds of DEATH. I was using the 12/31 or 12/18 bios. Why not hotflash?! GOOD IDEA! Tried to hotflash in my MSI K7N2 -L motherboard (nforce 2) & no go. Few times I seen the DFI logo startup, but thats about it. I have switched my memory around different slots. I have used different sticks of memory. I unplugged all unnecessary components. (i.e. ALL PCI devices, HD's etc.......)

So when is it time to throw the towel in? I have hotflashed about 15 times on two different bios chips. Flashed just fine, no problems. Pop the chip in & yeah......Tried flashing two a variety of different bios's. Still nothing. I refuse to goto amdmb.com cause I never get help......

ANY thoughts what so ever?

(my new avatar is going to be my DFI in flames, here soon)

I don't think the mobo is the problem with this. I heard the ABit NF7-S has the same problem and it's something wrong with the NFII chipset that causes it.

So if I go get a NF7-S from a local PC store today. You think I will encounter the exact same problems? I have not heard the NF7-S having so many bios corruption problems like the DFI. Go over to amdmb.com & you will see how often this occurs.

I mean is my board done or what? I can get the DFI logo to go.....Thats about it though. It pauses with different leds lit up. Well screw it, I'm going to get a Abit NF7-S today.

LoL. I went through 4 NF7-S's before I finally gave up and got an Infinity II. I don't know why you keep getting corruption, I know how frustrating that kind of thing can be. Just a little ironic for me.

Have you tried removing the CMOS battery, etc?

How do you make a new BIOS chip, BTW? I tried to figure it out - I have an extra chip from a dead NF7-S.

I have tried removing the CMOS jumper & leaving the jumper in "clear" position for well over 5 minutes. I don't really have the patience to leave it in that position over night like others have done.

I reflashed a bios chip to a new bios. I don't understand how a bios savior would help. Honestly I have not read up on a bios savior. Isn't it basically the same thing I have done?!

Johan:
Take your spare bios chip out of your NF7-S (carefully), bootup to a floppy on an "alive" PC. Once the floppy has loaded and your at the A:\ prompt, pop your real bios chip out & stick the NF7-S chip in. Type awdflash.exe bios.bin /tiny or /f if the tiny command no work. Once it's done your good to go. Just make sure to have the bios & AWDFLASH on the floppy.

Thanks for the input guys.

**Update** Heh, the local PC store did not have the Abit NF7-S. SOOOO, lmao, another DFI it was! Mainly out of curiosity.....

I purchased the Lanparty Ultra B on Saturday, defective, wtf?!?! Tried hotflashing a bunch of times, AFTER figuring the board was toast. And after about 3-4 hours I gave up, returned the board the very next day. Well the new one seems to be fine, wtf?!?!

Man........these DFI boards.......This will be my 5th, 6th, possibly even 7th DFI mobo in less then half a year. I know that probably sounds like user error, but really it's not.

Also I thought a few times it was bios corruption. But after hotflashing/w different bios chips I realized that it was the board itself. IF only it was bios itself that would be nice........Kind of looks as though the actual boards are going to.....
