Where am I? Who am I?
I will have $170 (100 for parts and 70 already) if I sell my current processor and ram to my brother and was wondering if I could get a mobile and decent ram for that, while still being better than my current setup, (current ram is 2700). Ill try to coax him to pay more but it may be hard. Could maybe get another $30 in if I really had too, by the time I'll buy it.

What PSU are you using by chance?

I would go with the 2500 mobile. Maybe just 1 stick of 256 right now and then get another later down the road.

the mobile will run you about 90$. a stick of 256 will work for 80$. but youd be greatly improving the setup if in anyway you can get a bit extra and make it 512k(2x256) somehow.

i would go for a 2500 and 1.45 vcore standard.........

you can get mobiles that run 1.65vcore standard i dont see the point in them as we are after low vcore ...
ive had my mobile 2500 @2450 on air no probs at all ....changeing to water i got 2.6ghz

not bad for a 2500 and cheaper than the 2600

256mb ? eww, even if you get more down the road which will prob be awhile nothng really runs good anymore with 256mb at least if youre a gammer.

I would try and find a 512mb stick of memory, then buy another later one for 1gb.

I would also get the 2500+ or 2600+ mobile. On excaliberpc.com the best stepping they have is for the 2600+.

ya the 2600 mobile is 99 on newegg. And you can get ram for pretty cheap http://www.smksuperstore.com/catalog/memory.asp?ID=291

50 bucks for 512 of 3200 ram. The mobiles run at 200 fsb right?

Mobiles run 266MHz bus at stock but are multiplier unlocked so this stock bus speed means almost nothing these days. Most people are running 400MHz+ with there Mobile Barton setups.

I ordered a 2600M from Newegg and it's the same "magical" stepping for sale at excaliberpc - IQYHA 0351MPMW and only $99.

Of course, there's no guarantee that you will get the same.

If you can pull together $200 total, then you should be able to afford a 2600M and a single 512mb dimm of pc3200 CAS 2.5 memory.
