Angry F'ing Northbridge fan

I just got my new nf7 and the northbridge fan makes a noise like it is hitting the fan guard. Anyone else have this problem??? It goes away after awhile but what could it be???

My first board did that. It'd only go away if the case was on its side instead of upright. I finally pulled it out and replaced it with one of those silent Zalman heatsinks. I had to RMA that board and the new one I got back, the fan works fine.

You need to change it out now...or its going to stop on you and then you might really be SOL...especially if you can't hear when it stops...

I learned a long time ago...always replace the NB HS/fan on any abit before installing for the first time...this is what happened to my Abit BE6-II...NB fan went out...didnt know it until the system shut down and would not boot again...took the NB HS off and the NB was a crispy critter...

I say try to revive it first. Pull the heatsink apart, and oil the bushing on the little fan. Mine starting making horrible noises so I oiled it. No more noises anymore. I think it has a decently long life ahead of it if I keep on oiling it every once in a while. I still keep an eye on it through my case window though.

There is a simple solution to stopping the n'bridge fan grinding to a halt, remove the metal grill then, skrew the fan back into the metal housing without it.
Not as good as a Zalman etc but better than opening up your case to find the fan has stopped spinning and the heatsink glowing red hot Like I found.

Just got the abit nf7-s yesterday and i turn on my pc to hear a loud clicking/whining from inside case. I get scared as this is my first homemade rig. Open it up check each fan and finally find out its the stupid northbridge fan. I love ocforums though, i came straight here after work to figure out if anyone else had the problem. I find this post and am very happy i'm not the only one . I'm gonna try what some other guys said above about removing the metal frame and screwing it back in. I dont want to RMA because of a stupid northbridge fan.

Well I e-mailed them back with a complaint and asked why I should rma my board because of a bad northbridge fan. That it seems like a waste of time and money. I also threw in the part about how Gigabyte was sending new northbridge fans free of charge. I haven't gotten an e-mail back but when I do i'll let you know

I just ordered a Vantec Iceberg for mine. I have been reading where a lot of people have been having trouble. I thought I would take care if this before the french fry version came along.

I can't wait till it gets here. It's copper.

When I get my NF7-S back I want to solve any and all problems that could occur like this so I would like to replace my NB cooler ASAP. The problem is I don't know what will fit on a 2.0 with my SP-97. Can somebody help me?

I just bought, but not yet put on, this heatsink for my NB. I can let you know if it is the exact same size as the stock one. If it is, it should replace the one you have with no problems. Link:

http://www.jab-tech.com/customer/pro...&cat=93&page=1

I thought about getting a bigger one but I was woried that I may change CPU heatsinks and then have a problems.

Want me to let you know how it works out?

That would be great dalek! I was thinking passive, but I am not opposed to active cooling. I just know that the Zalman cooler seemed like the only one that is likely to fit. Anyway, deffinetly let me know.
