Digital Cable to Audigy sound question

I have digital cable currently and next week they are coming in to put in a HDTV box. I understand it has about every kind of connection on it , including a SPDIF connector.

I have a Audigy 2 sound card with Logitech THX speakers on the computer. Needless to say the computer sounds 500x better then the TV does.

Is there anyway to connect the HDTV box to the Audigy2 card so I can have much better sound then just the TV speakers.
The Computers and TV are on the same entertainment area so they are fairly close.
I tried it with the RCA adapter yesterday and I couldn't get it to work no matter which jack I plugged it into. I am hoping either a digital jack or other works

Also if there is a way, is there a good way of switching between the TV sound and gaming sound without unplugging anytime I want to switch?

Thanks for any help!
