finally after wanting one of these forEVER i finally got one and it was delivered today.

my audigy powered rig has been transformed into a concert hall. i'm extremely impressed. so clear, so clean, so perfect. its like night and day.

and the best part of all this is i've just been using some Logitech Z640's, it can only get better from here :D

yo zabomb i saw you mention the hk direct on ebay. i went to your link, but you said something else about going through ebay to the store and getting better prices that way? can you explain what you mean by going through ebay? its time to step up and get some decent speakers to go along with my headphones and if i can get 350 dollar speakers for 90 bucks then it would certianly help me out since i just bought a laptop that cleaned me out. lmao.

i've been chilling to some Joshua Tree a perfect album for this sound card.

its a m-audio brand Revolution 7.1 and they are about 99 bucks at newegg.

Thats a sweet deal. Those need an amp right?

yes they need a receiver. but depending on your luck they can be found very cheaply i.e

would 110$ spent on computer speakers equal real home theater speakers? maybe if your deaf.... .

Yeah, that was me. *waves hand*

I'll probably purchase another pair soon to use as rear channels. I'll let you know how awesome they sound when they get here...ETA 1 week.

I've heard that the M-Audio is extremely good for music/video, while the Audigy 2 ZS is better for gaming. Has anyone encountered similar results?

M-Audio uses the CPU for some of the audio prosessing tasks, whereas the Audigies have an onboard sound prossesor, so you get a minimal framerate increase with an audigy.

How are those Monitor Speakers (KHs) next to monitors, do they distort the image at all? They will be sitting on the same desk as my CRT and dont want a messed up picture...

I run dual monitors and have the speakers on far right and left corners of the desk. Both speakers are within 2 inches of a monitor. As long as the speaker and monitor are both pointing forwards there is no distortion. If you have the monitor angling towards the speaker then you will just a purple blur. i'll upload a picture if you would like. the shielding on the speakers is very good though. If i dont have problems being <2" away, then i doubt anyone would.

Anyone have any benchmarks comparing the two sound cards in gaming?

as far as sound quality goes the Revolution beats the audigy2 in every review. But it has the fatal flaw of not having an onboard sound processor. with todays processors though i dont think its nearly as bad as it would have been a few years ago. i.e somone with a 3ghz processor isnt going to care as much about the extra cycles as much as somone who only has a p3.

yo z, the HK AVR 130 reciever is only 45x5. i watched an auction recently that put it just over 200 bucks. the next model up went for well over 300 which is really more than i want to spend. you think the 130 would be ok? which one do you use?

i like the JBL DCR600II
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39794&item=5701576292

100 X 5 Watts per channel, dynamic RMS power into 8 ohms at 0.08% THD, 80Hz to 20kHz (plus 100 watts into 8 ohms at 0.08% THD, 20Hz to 80Hz for subwoofer)
• Two-channel stereo mode: 100W per channel, continuous RMS power into 8 ohms at 0.08% THD, 80Hz to 20kHz
• Full-function pre-programmed remote control
• 1 Digital coax output
• 1 Optical and 2 Coax Digital inputs

http://manuals.harman.com/JBL/HOM/Owner's Manual/Cinema Propack 600Mk2-OM Rev 6-13-02.pdf

Harmon Kardon and JBL are the same company. The AVR 130 cost more for it's frequency range "20Hz – 20kHz into 8 ohms" vs "80Hz to 20kHz", which is wasted on 95% of all speakers. i.e the HK 6 bookshelf speakers have a frequency range of "55Hz – 20kHz"

harmon kardon modifies their products for Infinity in most cases.
i.e

HKB6.jpg

PRIMUS160BKS.jpg

Infinity - 49Hz - 20kHz
HK - 55Hz – 20kHz

Infinity - 3/4"
HK - 3/4"

Infinity crossover - 3,000Hz
HK crossover - 2800Hz

Infinity Store. (good deal on the center channel. kind of funny how the hk bookshelfs sell cheaper than infinity but infinity center channel sells cheaper than hk)
