I'm looking to increase my disk performance. I currently have a single 80GB WD Special Edition with 8MB cache. Not particularly slow, but nothing special. I was considering upgrading to a raptor, but that would cost me about $250 for the drive and a sata card. Additionally, I read that new test over at AnandTech, and for real-world performance, the raptors weren't all that much faster than standard 7200RPM 8MB drives! I was really surprised to read that.

Anyway, that got me to thinking about RAID0, and of course I have a few questions that I'm sure you guys would be able to answer! First of all, I can get a new drive identical to the one I already have for super-cheap. So let's assume I have two 80GB WD 7200RPM 8MB Specials that i want to set up with RAID0. I'm assuming I would need an ATA RAID controller, right? Newegg has these cheap (about 50 bucks each):

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=16-115-001&depa=0

Either one of these would do the job, right?

Finally, I can't seem to find any real-world performance numbers comparing a single ATA drive with the same drive in a hardware RAID0 configuration. Does anyone have any insight or linkage? Thanks!

Yes, I searched through that site for a while but I couldn't come up with anything...

[Edit]Nevermind, I just found what I was looking for in the FAQ section. Thanks![/Edit]
