P4S800D-E SiS IDE driver problem.

After installing this "refurb" board, I found that the IDE channel 1 and 2 drivers were not installed. So I went to Asus' website and got the " SiS Mini IDE Driver 2.04a for WIN98SE/ME/2K/XP".

Seemed simple enough and it had its own little setup.exe file. Well after rebooting an error message comes up that says "there was a problem with installing the driver" and something to the effect of "incorrect platform", sorry I cant remember off the top of my head

Basically the error messag was telling me that either the hardware did not match the driver, or the driver was not for that particular version of windows?

Either way every time XP boots it stops and prompts for these 2 IDE channels. Everything seems to be working fine outside of the hdd performing kinda slow. I cant find anything on the net about this and any suggestions would be appreciated. I have 7 days to make up my mind about what to do with this SiS board..blah!

Well I solved the problem myself. I removed the old Compaq Quantum Fireball and put in a slightly newer Maxtor. I dont know if removing and reinstalling the Quantum would have fixed the problem or not, but installing the maxtor solved all the problems and XP had no trouble getting the SiS board to cooperate with the IDE drivers in this instance.

So maybe there was limited compatibility or something..donno.
