What to look for in a fan controller?

Hey,

My question is what is a good feature of a certain fan controller?
What numbers are better higher, what features do I need what don't I need.

I've seen them form £4.60 all the way up to £29.99 thata GBP btw.

Thanks for any input!

James

Most common feature looked at for a fan controller is how many watts per channel will it handle...Higher is better..Some ppl's like the 0 to 12volt feature of the Sunbeam and certain nexus fan controllers..

Not in my opinion..
Quote:
Run the fans at full speed when you are doing CPU intensive tasks, and then when your system is idle run the fans at a slower setting. The variable speed setting can be adjusted to whatever speed you prefer, making it perfect for reducing noise. So, instead of leaving all 4 fans on all the time, you can instead turn down two and run 2 at a higher speed, cutting down on the noise immensely

Thats pretty cool.
But I have many case fans...

3 80mm intake fans
2 80mm circulation fans
1 PCI exhaust fan

I might be getting a 120mm fan as well...

I think the one you reccomened can only handle 4 fans.

Read my boy.. the fan controller will handle 20 watts per channel...So if each fan is rated at 5 watts each, you can put 4 fans on one channel..Clearer now? Just don't exceded the watts per channel rating of the controller..

I understand now I think. I didn't realise you can have more than 1 per channel.

Cool, cheers!

You can use a " Y " adapter or make your own...I just solder my wires to make my connections..Say you have a red and black coming off of the fan controller..Take the 2 fans reds and solder those to the red (positive) coming off of the fan controller wires..This requires cutting off the connectors on the controller leads and the fans leads..You do the same with the black (ground) wires..
Example of zone wiring...Wire the 2 frt. int's to channel 1. The 2 rear fans to ch.2. The top blow hole to ch. 3. and the side panel fan or fans to ch. 4. This will allow you to adj. the fans to regulate the cases internal pressure and the fan noise levels..
Be sure to remove all fan grids from the case and make sure your wires and cables are out of the air paths..
**Cover solder splices with shrink tape..**
