holding on to old hardware....?

Does anyone else do this? I just took out my 24x CD-ROM out of my computer to swap in a DVDRW. It was a sad moment. I have the funds to upgrade to a XP Mobile, but I feel too attached to my 1700+. DOes anyone else feel this type of attachment to their hardware? I just feel as though my hardware has done so much for me, I can't retire/sell it.

yea, i either take apart, destroy, sell, or just keep my old parts. i recently put an old 16x cd-rom drive into my old comp after its cd-rw drive died, which i then proceeded to destroy, keeping the interesting looking bits for fun (laser!) that's not quite attachment, but i do feel for my hardware

I know what you mean. I have four old computers out in my garage plus numerous computer parts. I should get rid of them but havn't had the heart to do it. They have have CPUs from 133MHz to 533MHz making them too slow for what I do. I should just give them away to someone. They would be OK for surfing the net.

I'm practically attached at the hip to all my old hardware.

From a complete in-tact Tandy TRS-80 from 1985 to an old EverGreen ISA power management card, I can never bring myself to toss any of my old hardware, or even sell it.

Only within the last 2 weeks have I begun to start selling things off (extra cash is always nice). You never realize how much junk/crap you have until you start rummaging through it

Still have our Apple ][e, but I got rid of my 286/386, but am having a hard time letting go of my 486 dx2-80, it was such a great comptuer and the board/proc, look like they came out of the package. But yeah, I have a million alpha's around and other ppro and pii's. About time to get rid of it I guess.

I'm not so much attached to my old hardware, I would switch out an older part for a new one in a heart beat if I had it.

I'm always willing to upgrade,
that said, I never throw out my old hardware, I keep it, play with it, try and mod it till it is broken, or put it in a box cause SOMEDAY I might need a 2X CDROM drive, or a 1Mb stick of Ram, or a DELL 486 heat sink

When I moved, I trashed 3 or 4 bags worth of cables, how many power and printer and serial cables does a person need? I have a NEC 7 disc cd changer its a big external scsi unit that I just cant seem to part with considering I paid over 400 for it back around the 96 or so.

those printer cables aren't cheap, last i checked they are $20

my parents used to complain about all my old computer parts.... until i had enough spare parts to build a second computer, once i had it up and running they confiscated it. a little while later i, once again, had enough parts to build another computer then my brother confiscated it

that part that really bothers me is not that i'm losing computers but the fact that they STILL complain about all my old computer hardware lying around

i'm intrested to see who's going to take my next spare-parts PC when i upgrade to a 64-bit system, everyone has thier own computer now so maybe i just might get to keep this one for a teamspeak/game server.

I use the old parts (nothing older than 6 years) so most of it still fits. My main rig sucks and is always braking. So I use the old parts to test. I built another rig with old parts and donated it last Xmas.
