I'm buying a new computer on July 1st for college. Here are the specs...

*AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor

*MSI nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Athlon 64 Socket 754 CPU, Model "K8N Neo Platinum" (MS-7030)

*POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9800XT Video Card, 256MB DDR, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "XR98T-D3"

*SAMSUNG 710N-Black 17" LCD Monitor

*(2)Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200

*SAMSUNG 80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model SP0802N

My Questions is: What is the best hs/fan to keep my processor in the low 30's to 40's around mid usage
for around 15$-20$ not including thermal paste.

Is there any overwhelming outstanding HSF for the 3400+ that dominates all others?

Thanks for any replys.

Yea, I had looked at thoes, but they were a bit too expensive... I'm not going to overclock my processor at all, I just want something that will keep it down under doom3 stress conditions.

anyone else have an idea?

Depending on your case and if you don't overclock it could reach those temps with stock. But if you're planning on overclocking, it's worth spending $50 on a good heatsink and fan especially if you're going to buy that $400 A64. The $50 would probably increase performance more than 12.5%.

I'd recommend the same heatsink: http://svc.com/thermalright-slk-948u.html
and this fan: http://svc.com/newys.html

Edit: whoops, didn't see your post

well, I was looking to budget this comp under $1,900 (including shipping) and right now it's at $1,860 not including shipping... Maybe I can find some spare change lieing around. I'm actually ordering this tomorrow.
