how do i get 2 monitors going on my 9700pro?

i had an extra monitor laying around so i decided to run a dual monitor setup on my computer

i plugged the 2nd monitor into the dvi port of my vid card using a converter and i windows still doesn't detect the new monitor....

what am i doing wrong or is this just not posible?
