SATA problems on the 8RDA3+

Well Im at a loss on this one. I bought a WD Raptor 10k-rpm SATA drive hoping to replace my 7200rpm WD with it as the C drive for my rig. I can not get the drive to accept the install. I was able to add the drive in WinXP and format it. I can read and write to the drive in WinXP but when I remove the ATA drives and set the Raptor as the boot drive in the BIOS the WinXP setup can not format it. I made sure the boot order is correct and the SATA controller is on and set to RAID so it should boot. The controller see's the drive ok, but even the onboard SATA software can not do a low level format. Any ideas ?

Here are a couple hypotheses: wouldn't you want the sata controller set to 'non-RAID'? From what I read, you only purcahsed 1 SATA drive. I would think that the controller is looking for an array(2+ drives) to format in RAID mode, but this is only a guess.
Option B) Is there an updated bios for your controller card?
Option C) When booting from the WinXP cd , do you hit F6 and install the SCSI/RAID controller driver? (Yes I know it's not scsi, but I think that is what the install displays)

Good luck.

boot only using the sata and install fresh version of windows.
when loading at one stage windows says something about sata drivers and need to hit f6 .
then it askes you to install floppy and it loads this driver.

in saying that the exact same thing happend to me
i tried days to load xp and other windows, sometimes i could format drive other days, i managed to install windows, i even tried 2 different sata ( i normally run raid)
it turned out that the mother board was fauly and got a new one, now its rocking
