Hello

Which card is better: FX5700 (non Ultra) or 9600XT 256MB?

Geforce FXD 5700
82 million transistors
4 Rendering pipelines
Core-clock roughly 500MHz
Memory clock: around 325MHz
Memory bus: 256-bit

ATI Readeon 9600XT:

4 Rendering pipelines
?
Memory clock: 300Mhz
Memory bus: 128bit
?

The fx5700, because the 256-bit memory bus. It should be better becasue there wont be a memory bottleneck. I wonder where you found a fx5700 w/ 256 bit, but definitely go with that (should be about the same price as the 9600xt too).

256bit memory bus on an FX5700? I know that the 5900 has 256bit, but I was unaware that they made a 5700 with 256bit. Could you please post a link to where you found that, I would like to take a peek.

It's a misprint because even down below in the specs table it shows 128 bit memory. I think what he was looking at must of just been a misprint because I can't find any 256 bit 5700's anywhere made by any company, even the Ultra versions.

I'd definitely say go for the 9600 XT, it will beat the 5700 Ultra in most cases, so it will be significantly better than the 5700 non-ultra. Although, instead of spending the extra money on the 256mb 9600 XT, I'd advise going for the 128mb 9800 Pro. The extra horsepower of the 9800 Pro will be worth more than the extra RAM of the 9600 XT and the new Sapphire and MSI 9800 Pro's have the R360 cores, meaning you can mod them to 128mb 9800 XT's which will give a large performance boost over any 9600 XT.

Hardcoreware.net had an artical about this very question! Perfomence wise they where more or less the same.

But I'll side with Hitman, get a 9800XT or even a 5900XT.
