Okay, I have a few choices I will list them in likelihood as to how good they look to me right now after I say a few things.
First thing that I need to mention is that all of this will be EVGA models of the cards, no other companies because I am using their stepup system. Second and along the same lines do not suggest any ATI cards to me, not only do I openly despise ATI and love Doom 3 but also cannot use the stepup system to get them so they are pretty much entirely out of the question.
Also, I should say that money is really no object, just time (filthy Doom3). I have the resources to quickly obtain the money for all of these cards, in fact I already have money for the first two on the list. I do not care about price, I do however care about overall value I want a pretty good bang for my buck. (6800 was a good bang, but then doom 3 came out and I feel like running it in high/ultra settings just because.)
Also I will not overclock any of these cards until it is no longer under warranty (rather break the card naturally and replace it than break it unaturally and end up with a paper weight when I could have just gotten it replaced). Also bring to mind another question, with the implementation of overclocking within the Nvidia control panel does it still void the warranty to overclock the card?
Anyway here is my list and some pros and cons, plus a few questions that I would like some knowledgable answers for. So here it goes:
1. Upgrade to 6800 GT since eVGA suprised you and sold out of the Ultras the day before you were going to sign up for the step-up and ship out your 6800.
Pros:
Lower price than that of an ultra.
Great performance ratio from what I hear.
Great overclocker for when you do start.
Leaves you with extra money for upgrades around Christmas and easter/birthday (memory, CPU, and sound)
Less space (not an issue now or later for that matter.)
Less power consumption (not an issue now or later)
Cons:
Slower than an Ultra for obvious reasons.
2. Wait for ultra to become available again
Pros:
High performance pretty much assured for both Doom 3 and any other games you want to play.
Cons:
Leaves less money for other things that you want like a new processor and memory.
Takes up a substantial amount of space and power (non-issue)
3. Wait and see if you win the ability to buy a UEE.
Pros:
Assured to be "extreme"ly fast.
Wow.
Cons:
Even less money for thing that you want.
Even more power consumption (At this point it may or may not have the ability to present a problem to you.)
May not win, and then you will have waited for nothing.
Okay, I was also looking for some good comparisons of these cards if you have them. Such as 3dmark01-03 scores, Aquamark, Game performance (already going to review those HardOCP time demos thoroughly as that is a game I have waited more than 3 years for.) and anything else.
Help is appreciated. Thanks.
