My SL6WK 30cap won't do 250!

Hello, I'm gonna try to make this as brief as I can and not write a book. Ok, so I bought a 3.0c SL6WK 30-cap and it won't go past 245FSB.

I have tried many things and no success. Here is how I have it running at 245FSB Prime95 stable, Game playing stable, and benchmark stable.

Abit IC7-G latest Bios
3.0c@3.68 default volts 1.525; 245 FSB
1GB OCZ PC3700EB 1:1 @ 245FSB 2.8v; 3,3,2,8

AGP ratio fixed 66/33
AGP volts @ 1.65
GAT settings: A-A-A-D-D

I have also tried this with my PC3200 OCZ EL Plat @ 5:4 loose timmings and even 3:2, but to no avail. It just won't boot into windows @250FSB. I have tried pushing my volts to even 1.6volts for 5 more measly FSB and nothing.

I have also tried GAT settings: A-A-7-D-D and always do loose timmings first before I ever tightened them.

Do you think my motherboard is limiting me? Thanks for any help.

Edit: I'm using aircooling. Idle @ 245 = ~32C and Load = ~49C. So I don't think temp is an issue

I had nearly the same problem, 235 fsb comes at stock and I can do 245 without going over 1.575 in bios, but I can't get 250 no matter what. I've tried different bios, all the GAT combinations that would help an overclock, agp bumps, better NB cooling and I can't get there either. I have heard there can be some "memory conflicts" with the IC7, and I just got a paycheck so I am going to try some 533MHz RAM from a different manufacturer and see if that helps. but 245 is a very good overclock Good luck to you! Also don't forget to try switching memory slots! if you are on 1 and 3, try 2 and 4.

If you are running 5:4 it might indeed be a memory conflict. I'm running 257FSB on an IC7-MAX3 with PC3200 running 205Mhz 5:4 and I need to set GAT to A-N-A-D-D while this RAM will run 230Mhz 1:1 with GAT set to F1-A-A-A-D Thinking about getting some DDR533 sticks as well but my wife is going to kill me, duh!

someone a while back said you get a better overclock when using dual channle if you use slots 1-3

Update to my situation:

I was able to boot into windows at 250FSB using 1:1 at stock voltages but unfortunately I'm not stable. Prime95 gives me an error, see attachment.

Now, I tried raising the voltages to 1.6 and I still get this error so something must be causing me to be unstable.

I have narrowed it down to two things possibly. 1) My motherboard might be the problem somehow or 2) My PSU unit. I own an Antec SmartPower 400W PSU.

I hardly doubt the processor has a wall at 245FSB seeing that my friend ran it at 250FSB prime stable with the same motherboard. Do you think it's maybe the PSU?

Also I'm thinking about getting an Abit AI7 to replace my IC7-G to see if my motherboard in fact is the problem and to be able to give my ram 3.0+ vdimm.

245 FSB is still a good overclock. What sense is there in buying a new motherboard for a performance gain that you won't even notice?

Friend ran his on the same mobo as mine IC7-G at 250FSB stock voltages so why can't I run it at 250FSB with even 1.6v?

Also 250 wasn't his highest overclock, he was able to get 255 with 1.575v stable but remained at 250 for cooler temps and stock volts.

your right I won't notice a difference and I am happy I can at least get it this high but you can say i'm not satisfied. I probably won't end up buying it just yet but I just don't like having a wall at 245FSB if in fact it's my mobo.

sounds like just the chip you got, it aint the mobo....i can boot at 262...not stable but the mobo is good..

I can boot in to windows with stock volts with AI7 at 250 fsb but its not stable. But i have a 2.8cw/ mo stepping.I love this cpu i can boot in to windows at 270 fsb at 1.675 but not stable i can bump up to 1.7 and it seems stable but runs way to hot for me Idle is like 43-45c.Oh yeah this at 1:1 cas 3-3-3-7 and A-A-A-D-D.But i found out that even if i get it to were it wont crash i have issues above 255fsb.Msn wont run i dont have desktop icons and some other problems i cant even run 3dmark.So even though i can hit 270 whats the piont.Dude if i were you i would just stick with the 3.6ghz. if its stable and all.I was the same with my SL6wk but mine was a 12 cap and i tried everything and all i could do was 220 stable anything over that and i mean anything was totally unstable.Heck i even ripped the IHS off in hope that would help but it Didnt do sqwat.Luckly i didnt kill the cpu.And ws able to sell it to some that can use it and dosent care if it overclocks,One more thing like VH said try memory slots 2 and 4 it works sometimes..ON my Ai7 it worked for me.I could OC the 3.0 at all till i moved them and the 2.8 i couldnt get over 225 with the ram in slots 1 and 3.Could help.
