Hey all, I have a question for anyone out there.

My current bed is in pretty poor shape, and I'm in the market (kinda) for a new one. Where I live is that I'm renting a room at a friend's family's house, so I don't have all that much room. That in mind, I've been thinking about a futon to sleep on ALL the time. Considering that I don't exactly have extra room for a chair or couch or something (with a bed and computer/desk in there ) I figure it might be kinda nice to consolidate a little.

Now I know that there are some pretty crappy futons out there that I wouldn't want to sleep on for more than a night, but I've slept on one or two that were pretty comfortable.
Also, my budget isn't terribly high right now, but I could save money if I had something to put it towards.

So here it is, do any of you know of a good/comfortable/solid futon and where I might be able to locate it? I have basic chainstores like target/wal-mart/sam's club around here, but I could buzz up to the metro area if I found something I wanted.

Oh yeah, I've been sleeping on a twin mattress for as long as I can remember, and I'm only 5'10" so size doesn't need to be huge

Only in this forum would computer nerds talk about their beds... All I can say is, get a nice firm mattress! I *hate* soft mattresses. I got a new one a few years back, and sleep much better, and have almost no back pain (used to have alot, which sucks for a 19 year old).

Then again maybe you are one of those types who likes soft mattresses... if thats the case.. GET out!

I agree, ignore the standard conventions that tell you that it's 'right' to own a 'bed.' A bed is "A piece of furniture for reclining and sleeping," and there's no real need to buy the whole wooden frame, the only point of raising a bed is to put stuff under it, and didn't your mom tell you not to do that? My stepsister(a high-maintenance daddy's girl) absolutely raves about those inflatable beds, the ones seen on TV, or whatever? I don't know the name of it, but she really likes it, and that's REALLY portable.
Let me just make it clear. If my stepsister likes something enough to use it herself, and admit it, then it's good enough for the queen.

I had a futon for a while, but it broke. I replaced the mattress with a cheap one from a store that was very thick, and I just put it over the futon's wood. So the wood was acting as a layer between the matress and the floor, I guess for support also. The only problem is that its very low. But I loved that mattress, it was very comfortable. When we were moving he bored it since we got rid of his bed, and I never got it back...his gf put it in her house.. I got some hard normal bed now.

So Just try out different mattresses...The rest is entirely based on your wallet. And I also dont recommend buying anything too big if your going to be moving it yourself. I had to get rid of his bed, and it weigh a lot, and was a lot taller then me, and wouldn't stay straight... It was very hard to get out of the house.

This is something I'm kinda going for, as I've moved twice in the last year, and I'll probably move again in a year or so. A mattress + boxspring + metal frame is a PITA to haul around everywhere

Thank you thank you thank you....no one seems to understand this. People look at it like you must be poor if you don't have a "normal" bed.


I guess I'll just have to look around. I might just end up getting a different mattress and tossing everything else in the dumpster

Well, you probably are poor(simply for normality's sake) to not have a regular bed, but it really comes down to rich vs. common sense.

I'm such a non-conformist, that I sleep with just a mattress on the floor. An inflatable mattress.
