A little Canadian pride

Warning: this is a shameless plug that I received in my email box today - you might not like it, if you're not canadian.

Sorry but I just HAD to post it.

Quote:
SO, WHAT DO CANADIANS HAVE TO BE PROUD OF?

1. Smarties

2. Crispy Crunch, Coffee Crisp

3. The size of our footballs fields and one less down

4. Baseball is Canadian

5. Lacrosse is Canadian

6. Hockey is Canadian

7. Basketball is Canadian

8. Apple pie is Canadian

9. Mr. Dress-up kicks Mr. Rogers ass

10. Tim Horton's kicks Dunkin' Donuts ass

11. In the war of 1812, started by America, Canadians pushed the Americans back...past their 'White House'. Then we burned it...and most of Washington, under the command of William Lyon MaKenzie King who was insane and hammered all the time. We got bored because they ran away, so we came home and partied...Go figure..

12. Canada has the largest French population that never surrendered to Germany.

13. We have the largest English population that never ever surrendered or withdrew during any war to anyone. anywhere. EVER.

14. Our civil war was fought in a bar and it lasted a little over an hour.

15. The only person who was arrested in our civil war was an American mercenary, who slept in and missed the whole thing... but showed up just in time to get caught.

16. We knew plaid was cool far before Seattle caught on.

17. The Hudson's Bay Company once owned over 10% of the
earth's surface and is still around as the worlds oldest company.

18. The average dog sled team can kill and devour a full grown human in under 3 minutes.

19. We still know what to do with all the parts of a buffalo.

20. We don't marry our kin-folk.

21. We invented ski-doos, jet-skis, velcro, zippers, insulin, penicillin, zambonis, the telephone and short wave radios that save countless lives each year.

22. We ALL have frozen our tongues to something metal and
lived to tell about it.

23. A Canadian invented Superman.

24. We have colured money.

25. Our beer advertisments kick ass

BUT MOST IMPORTANT!

24. The handles on our beer cases are big enough to fit your hands with mitts on. OOOoohhhhh Canada!!

25. And we don't bomb our allies.

oh yeah... and our elections only take one day.

Pass this on if you are proud to be Canadian!!!

I AM CANADIAN!!!

I was born 30 minutes south of the Canadian border (Great State of Washington!) and ...well...Canada kicks California's ass.

Oh Canada!

Just to through mud in the water, I'm an American who lives in Canada and daily I wonder:

1) Why are taxes TWICE as high in canada
2) Why aren't there decent online retailers
3) Why is it so hard to find a good Doctor or Dentist
4) Why does Canadian Idol suck so much
5) Cigarettes are much more expensive

Then I remind myself of the good things:

1) My wife is Canadian
2) Canadian Beer kicks MUCH @$$
3) Toronto is pretty cool to visit
4) Best Chinese restaurants are in Missassauga
5) Canadian Tire - you'd be surprised at what things you can find there

1. Because we have free health care and subsidized education.
2. There are a few like NCIX.
3. Because Americans steal them by paying them a higher salary.
4. Because Idol just sucks period.
5. Because we like to make the people who poison themselves pay for the health care they will use.

Oh and the best chinese resturants are in Vancouver/Richmond as about 30% of the B.C. pop. is chinese.....although I will admit I have never eaten Chinese in Ontario.

I lived in Canada, in fact what most Canadians who live in the middle of Canada call the Armpit of Canada, not kidding (you Winnipeg people know what I am talking about). And I live back in the states again.
I lived in many countries, and enjoy many things out of each of them, but their is only 1 that I would call the 51'st state. Oh yeah, thats Canada. Btw, what Canadian car do you drive? Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed how green and nice it was. I loved Canada and the people, but I also don't understand arrogance.

My dream is next to at least visit Scotland. Now thats what I think of when I think green.

1) I pay taxes in the States where I work, so Canadian Healthcare is useless for me
2) Yeah, but not quite the selection in the States, but close.

1) Free health care, education, social services, unemployment insurance and fairly well maintained infrastructure are what your tax dollars go towards.

2) Who needs decent retailers when you can walk down College street in T.O. and be surrounded by parts. (cough: www.pccanada.com / www.ncix.com / www.bigfootcomputers.com)

3) Brain drain.

4) CTV should just be called CBS North.

5) Maybe an incentive to stop smoking? (it's not like you can smoke anywhere public in T.O anyways with the great new NO-SMOKING bylaw)

An American who lives in Canada... Rick Mercer would have a field day with you.

spool,

I see your point, but you are, but one man. Our government has 30 million Canadians to take care of....and they are not in the same situation as you.

I don't like excessive taxes or waste, but we do get a lot for our money. My personal opinion is that extra taxes should be applied to all unhealthy activities: junk food, cigs, fast food, alcohol....etc. Its not that I don't enjoy these products once and a while (except cigs), It's just that healthy food should never cost MORE than unhealthy food.....and the cost of an unhealthy life stlye is funded by everyone and that is not fair.

One of the things I always liked about Canadians is that they didn't have the mindless nationalism that one sometimes finds among my American countrymen. I guess this thread disabuses me of that idea.

Good point David. In keeping with that I also feel compelled to mention that Canadians ought not to take credit for insulin (Canadian scientists yes but in Scottish lab space provided by one J. J. R. MacLeod) or penicillin(Sir Alexander Fleming)
