I <3 Msi 9800p

I overclocked it to a little over XT standard speeds using stock cooling. Only problem is that the fan makes my PC just a tad louder than before. Is there anyway to tell what temperatures it is? from newegg.com comments, people clocked it even higher (LOTS of people) than I did, and said it worked fine. And I ran ATITOOL's furry cube, 0 artifacts after a minute of scanning. After playing d3 and ut2k4 all day, 0 artifacts or problems too. Can it be safe then to say that this o/c is successful and temperatures are still good?

People use VGA silencer, but I heard its hard to install on this card. Also, is it absolutely neccessary (other than to keep the case quieter)?

as far as i know, the on-die temp sensor is diabled, whether its done by software or on the pcb i dont know. if you really want to know the temp there, you could stick a thermal probe under the hsf and get to the side of the core (or at least the lip of it). dont know how accurate that would be though.

ive finally taken my memory up to 350mhz, and with a 430mhz core, the back of the card is a touch warm, but not so hot that i cant hold my hand on it. the silencer may not be necesary, unless you just want the extra headroom. and ya'll must have really sensitive ears if you can hear that fan, the 120mm on medium in my psu, and my sf2 on low, are both much louder then the card, not to mention the other 3 fans in my case.

Well, one minute of ATITool is only good for the grossest of errors. Really, you should run the Scan For Artifacts for 30 minutes. With my card, artifacts that haven't shown up by then don't ever show up.

Just keep pushing that thing to higher and higher speeds

JigPu: thanks I will scan for 30 minutes. But I won't crank it any higher, as I'm content with XT speeds.

As for installing the VGA silencer, it's actually really easy. The Rev.2 anyways. I think they are all the same though. The Zalman is the one that's a pain in the [Insert bad word here] to install.
