That store was also the most overpriced store in history.

I remember looking at the FAO Swartz catalog when I was little. I wanted all the most expensive toys, and thought when I got older and had a job I'd buy them all. Its strange how our interests change.

So Toys R Us deserves it!

Although I wish walmart and target went out of business too.

no loss here, the Toys R Us here is pretty damn ghetto. I dont know why. the Child World it replaced was much nicer. (same building)

eh, toys r us was really over priced too! they marked up their prices like crazy!.

I never heard of FAO swartz. dunno anything about them....oh well.

and don't worry, walmart WILL eventually fall. it may take a while. but it will happen. they won't stay big forever.

hell, 20-30 years ago. look at k-mart. they were the BIGGEST, LARGEST chain store in the US. look at them now! my brother works for one. a year ago, they closed down over 100 K-marts in the us.

it will happen to walmart too.

the only good thing coming out of fao schwarz going under was the insane sale near the end. i went in during the last 2 weeks when everything was upwards of 75% off and i got my girlfriend a 700$ 6-foot long stuffed dog for less than a hundred bucks...

Uh, when K-Mart was at it's lowest point a year or two ago, they were selling stock at around $1/share. Now they are selling at over $65 a share, and their 52-week high was $84/share. K-Mart is no longer in the dire straits they once were.

Anyway, prepare to see more of this. With the way Wal-Mart has been sprouting up, they are preparing to dominate a lot of markets. Toys-R-Us is happening now, and I can see the time when all those stupid Supercenters start to work supermarkets out of business just like the supermarkets did that to the small stores years ago. IF Wal-Mart doesn't eventually fall... it could be trouble for the US economy, especially since most of their merchandise is not made in the US, Canada, or any other country in the NAFTA.

Oh, and don't get Thelemac started on Wal-Mart either.

hehe, trust me, no matter what thelemac says about walmart, i have heard it from my brother, for a month straight!!!!!

i have heard everything! so, talking about it here online, is alot less annoying than my brother popping into my room while i'm watching tv, or playing a game, to hear some lecture about walmart again.

It would take some *pretty* bad executive decisions to start Walmart down the road of failure. Not saying I approve of their methods (Themlmac had a very nice thread a year or so ago about them), but they ARE #1, not because of their image, but because of their prices, and the way they have a store JUST about everywhere...

They put in a "Super Walmart" here and all the other stores were hit pretty hard. Damn thing screwed up traffic something terrible too...

sigh I hate(d) FAO Shwartz, so elitist, so stuck up

I rate a toy store's worth by its selection in video games and Transformers. With this in mind I will miss Toys r us. I still remember buying my 1st nintendo, going out and buying Super Mario Bros 2 (my favorite one). I just bought a reissue Transformer a week ago from there
