Welcome back cable!

Tomorrow Americast will come to install cable lines for TV and broadband. I have Verizon DSL now and have been relatively happy with it. Decent DL/UL speeds and good gaming pings. After having the @Home service in KY for over a year I've missed the massive bandwidth of cable since moving to CA. I live in a very rural are north of LA where I doubt many people have the service as most use Adelphia for TV and a couple of local DSL services including verizon.

Tests in the area during busiest times peak at 900+DL/750+UL. Quite fast for peak hours.

Can't wait...I really missed 700K+ download speeds.

Jon,

How do you determine the usage at peak hours on the cable if you haven't got it yet? I'm looking at getting DSL or cable and would love to have that info before signing up for either.

Well, this is a very small town and I went to DSLReports.com and read the reviews. They are pretty reliable for this are.

Most people here use Verizon DSL and Adelphia cable TV. They don't even know Americast has cable internet available. When it first came out it sucked so bad people switched and didn't switch back.

I just ran the test from DSLReports (got hooked up a few hours ago) and get 3389D/493U on the meter. Looks like my upload is capped at half a meg. Nonetheless, that's some massive download bandwidth. I've downloaded from a few sites so far and depending on the server it has ranged from 50K/s to 900K/s...not bad.

It's costing me less than DSL was and I'm happy so far. Haven't tried gaming pings yet, but considering they are both Verizon products, I imagine it to be relatively the same and in the sub-50 range.

EDIT:

Thought I'd add that I ran that test at 12pm, noon PST.
