Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption and Win2K

I'm having problems installing Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption on my 2K box. I have downloaded SP2 and the Compatibility updates. Activision is no help at all. They just point me to the compatibility updates and talk down to me about 2K not being the next upgrade for 98 (Duh. Bite me). When I try to install, the little install wizard progress bar fills up, but then sits at 100% for a few minutes, then I get an illegal operation error, and it closes the installer. Does anyone play Vampire, and have they been able to install it on 2K? I have the old installed game from my 98 box before I formmatted, but I haven't tried to play it yet. Can anyone help, or am I buggered until XP?

Any help? Anyone? I don't wanna have to reformat my harddrives from NTFS to FAT32 so I can reinstall W98, and I don't wanna wait two months for XP! I'm dying here!
