New case, ripe for modding

I just picked this one up from my local comp store. It hase no name, but was only $68. It has a slide out mobo tray, removeable side panels, 6 5" drive bays and 3 3"(2ext, 1 int). All around a good deal, I'd say. Here it is before my hole cutting adventure, and with a ignition on/off.

See replies below.

I'm sure the case looks great, but I can't see any of the pictures. Just reduce the size and dump them on the board in an attachment. It'll be easier that way.

You dont even need to mod that thing. Key starts are cooler than anything!

Looks like a nice roomy case - what do you have in mind for it?

Pretty much just a cooling mod. I already cut the holes and am painting tonite. Glossy deep blue. I am adding as many fans as I can get my hands on and a second power supply for the hell of it

I dunno, a fan bus, LCD if I can swing it... stealth mod

What I'd really like is an analyzer, you know, like on the front of a stereo, only the old style, with neeedles and so forth. Any one have plans for how to hook one up? I can get the meters for next to nothing

any other ideas?

I'm sure that you will remove the cutesy patterns of holes that restrict airflow through what appear to be the pre-punched mounts for two 80mm fans near the top rear of the case. If you decide not to mount a second PS above the "OEM" one, widen that 60mm(?) cut-out to accommodate a real fan.

In fact, you might consider re-cutting the two upper rear 80mm mount points to put at least two 92mm's there, instead. 80mm's just don't move much air and 80's that do are expensive and LOUD.

If this is to be a T-bird box, I suggest giving some thought as to where the 120 mm fan(s) will be mounted in the L/H side case cover. Cutting holes for mounting 120 mm fans is APITA--unless you are well equipped with the right tools. Nonetheless, they're a necessity for Thunderbird/Duron boxes, IMHO.

Planning the ventilation of a new case is fun. Just remember that metal that is cut is gone. Personally, I measure four times--then cut once!

just one thing, before you paint make sure you have sanded the case, not down fo far that it looses it's clean lines, but enought to give the paing something to cling too, you must do this for the plastic on the case too, other then that, GO FORTH AND MOD!!!!

ps key ignitions are kick ass

I never saw a key start. I want one. That's the first thing I'll look for in my tower.

I installed one myself. The car ignition does both start and reset, depending on how long I hold the key in the start position.

It was my roommate's idea. And I quote him: "Me and my big mouth..."
