It should be good, the top two mobo's on my list right now are ASUS A8V Deluxe and this MSI Neo2 Platinum; they're comparable. As of this moment, I am searching for some reviews...I'm going to try anandtech first, then search google and get back to you if I find anything noteworthy.

EDIT:

Here's a good comparison of all Socket 939 mobo's:
http://anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2128

Looks like MSI Neo2 Platinum is the best performer.

I don't know whether or not to trust this MSI board, I've heard of sooooo many problems with the S754 version (the regular "Neo"). I just don't know, I should start a thread or something---maybe we could see how many complaints are here about the MSI Neo2, compare that to the # of people who are happy with it, then go from there.

Yeah, the Neo2 came out on the 18th I believe, so it's still pretty new for people to have issues with it--they probably haven't even received it yet if they did order.

sorry one more question... i cant tell by looking at the board since i'm new to WC... does the neo2 have mounting holes around the cpu for a water block? or do i remove that black thing around the cpu housing and use the 2 screw holes there to instal the block?

The only holes around the CPU are the 2 for the HS support. The back plate is glued on though, so be careful when you take it off - i had to heat my board with a hair dryer to soften the glue.

Since people without problems wouldn't be posting about it, I think your point here means nothing. Every motherboard since the beginning of computing has had some problems, the Neo2 is no different.

I ordered one of these boards here in Australia last night.

I hope it will be OK (I will post my comments in about a month when I get the chip/ram).

I've been through an Asus A8V ver. 1.02 pci/agp lock enabled which ran nicely, overclocked decently. Then I had a chance to use an Abit AV8 "cough" "crap" "cough", not even worth talkin' about. Went back on the Asus board for a bit. I then pre-ordered the MSI K8N Neo2 after all the hype. Got that board in, returned the Asus board.... gave the MSI a nice test run. TBO, I wasn't too impressed. It did not surpass the A8V in terms of stability or overclock (in my case at least), although not far apart. The Neo2 also had a few quirks that was just annoying (Raid, G/Lan problems). It's also afflicted with Abits outrageous temp readouts (pretty common with most Neo2's). Also stuff like only being able to use sata 3/4 when overclocking to the max, or using memory banks 3 and 4 for similar reasons, buncha' lil annoying quirks. Ya, the black pcb looks nice and all... but that ain't cuttin' it.

So in the end, the Neo2 so far seems to take after it's lil bro (Neo) with similar issues. No wonder Asus and Abit decided not to use Nforce3Ultra chipsets and mentioned due to instability. Now I'm on an Asus A8V version 2 board and it's just as solid if not not more than the earlier version that I had. So there's my experience with a few s. 939ers.

Same here the Msi was ok with the the 1.0 bios but the temps were up the creek. I fashed it with the new bios and got the same raid probelms i had with the k8n neo1, the neo 2 is better that the neo 1 but still buggy the asus a8v beat it every where.

Of course there is a point. SOmeone asked about it so I pointed them to some reading material...I didnt say it sucked or anything, just directed to some of the stuff that I have been reading.

Plus he needs to read that stuff to find out what kind of RAM the Neo2 actually likes.

Omg!!!!!!!

Thanks man! I "almost" ordered the MSI Neo. Seems to be pretty quirky abt the memory. I read the complaints on the MSI forum. I may just go with the Asus AV8.
