Which is better for overclocking out of these two? Any reasons why one is better than the other would be appreciated also.

The Geforce 3 Ti200 should overclock a lot, as they were great overclockers in there day.

As for the 8500, dunno, at stock speeds it's the better card. Hell it was on Par with the Ti500 which had much higher speeds than the Ti200.

From what I remember, the 8500's weren't good overclockers, at least mine wasn't. The real 8500's were @ stock 275/275, those could only hit 300/300 with stock cooling. The performance was rougly 15% faster than stock.

the 8500s were superior to ANY geforce 3 ever made, overclocking is another story, an overclocked ti500 might meet an overclocked radeon at 300/300

NO.

There is no 8500 on this planet that owns a Ti500.

And the Ti200 is a very good OCer.

my 8500 did 310-310 stock cooling.

and yes it did own ti500's.

it beat stock ti4200's in some stuff. certainly was competitive with it.

now a 8500le is a different story.

I'm guessing the LE is worse? Btw, which ti200/500 brand is reknown for ocing and is the ti500 the one that was suppose to compete with the 8500 or is it the ti200?

This is simply false. Please get your facts strait before posting.

Alright so I've narrowed it down to geforce3 ti500 and the ati 8500. Are there any brands with the geforce that OC better than others and while OC do they beat the 8500 at 300/300?

I'm looking at a comparsion between an 8500 and a Ti500 in a PC World from 2001, and the Ti500 had a slight lead over the 8500.

I have a radeon8500 and I cant get close to the performance of my ti200 either. I honestly think I should be matching my ti200, I bought more 8500s just in case mines defective cause its so slow! anyway just grab a ti4200, forget ti500s

Any reason why you have **** loads of old cards?

Just for comparison I have a 9000Pro which is quite a bit slower clock to clock than the 8500, but I am able to get my core up in the low to mid 300's. Somewhere between 330-350 I beleive, I have not been gaming lately and have it at stock for now which is why I cannot remember exactly. I got my memory I think in the 290's low 300's with staples on it. The core had a large heatsink rubber banded to it.

As for the origional question, I think the GF3 actually would be a better overclocker. Why not get a Ti 4200? Those can be found for quite cheap and are decent overclockers that offer some pretty good performance for their money.

the 8500 started out being a slower card, but as ati got their act together with regards to their drivers, the speed met and surpassed a ti500. that's stock vs stock. i had my 8500 310-310, on stock cooling this was pretty good. i'd say 300-300 is realistic. i have no idea what a ti would clock to, whether it be ti200 or ti500, it would have to be a really good oc to keep up with mine tho.

I plan on building a new rig just to oc the cpu the video card isn't all too important to me, but I'd like it to be atleast decent. Since the question hasn't been answered yet are there any brands that are better in terms of ocing for the geforce3 ti500 or the 4200?

Wow, sorry I cant answer your question, but I think its a bit funny that you asked it like 8 times and you were ignored.

Btw, I have owned many 8500's and their variants, and they are faster at stock than a ti500, 240/250 compared to 275/275. The 8500 was originaly slower than the ti200, but when catalyst came out, its performance jumped way up. I have been able to get about 13,000 3dmarks out of my 8500's, and 11,500 out of my le's on average, compare that to most ti500's and you will have your answer. I will admit the ti4200 is a bit faster, but the IQ is also quite a bit lower. Ati cards also take very little hit from running anisotropic filtering.
