Hi all,

I was just wondering... If money weren't an issue, what would be the best (existing) computer system that can be built? Menaing, if you got to build the absolute best gaming machine in existence, what parts would you use?

The only problem w/ this question is, if we were to build the best gaming system w/ parts that are out right this minute, it wouldn't stay the best for more than a month or two. There is some killer new technoloty coming out very soon, most notably, the new nforce4 mobo's that would allow you to chain 2 6800 ultra gpu's together in SLI. It would prolly look something like:

AMD FX53 OR Dual Opterons (depending on how much money's burning a hole in your pocket)
Nforce 4 mobo, SLI edition
2 gigs PC2 5400 DDR2 memory
Dual BFG 6800 Ultra OCs (or dual Gainward Golden Sample 6800 Ultras) in SLI
Audigy 2 Gamer Sound Card
Dual 74 gig Raptor hdd's in RAID0 / 300 gig Maxtor SATA hdd w/ 16mb cache for backup

Everything what he said except for a few things. Sicne DDR2 won't be out on AMD for a while, might as well wait for the FX-55, and dual CPUs arn't the best for games.

And a 7 speaker Klipsig(sp?) system; headphones either Zalman surround sound speakers or Sennheiser Pro series.

You will be able to get all this by Christmas or Channuka ;)

if money is no optiona dual or quad opteron - simply have 4 processoer so u can play a game while ripping some dvd or buuning cd's :)

this question is realyl too broad and for about $2k you can have a top end gaming rig

but the SLI is the way to go if money is no option and @ least a a64 or dual opterons if you plan to multitask while playing games.

Sennhieser Orpheus. Except no substitute.

dual opteron 250's in a coolermaster ATC-111BX with bladerunner made full watercooling
X800XT PE Vivo
4x512mb OCZ EB 3700
dual 74gb raptors in Raid-O
16X lite-on DVD-rom
fastest DVD-rw out
SB audigy 2 ZS plat
Some fancy SATA RAID card
PCP&C PSU over 500watts
quiet fans
and a nice desk

Actually, afaik, Nforce4 will only support DDR2... I could be mistaken, but most boards that are coming out that support PCIe only make use of DDR2.

Censor: I'm pretty sure Elviscerator meant your grammatical error in your previous post. You used "except" where you should have uses "accept." ;)

lol

grammar blows
syntax rules

Why not just order a machine from Falcon NW or Alienware or a reputable gaming computer specialist? I mean, they take the best parts and match them together for the best performance. You can always OC later for more performance, and not to mention you get some pretty killer warrentees through some of those companies as well.

money is no object is to broad for that i would personally do like 10k but for unlimited funds...

Grand canyon monitor from http://www.go-l.com/monitors/grand_canyon/features/

I would have 74terabytes of raided raptors (hey if they can do 36 at the local tv station with 36gb hds i can do 74 tb with74gb hds)

OCD 148 or whaterver that crazy fast internet line is straight to my house so internet goes faster than my hard drives can write

4 prometia systems 1 for each video card 1 for the CPU and 1 for the Northbridge

3-4 GB RAM

or more if i can find a way to put it in

Professional Audio System (think like concert hall/arena speakers) with 7.1 surround (or 9.1 which I think exists)

UXGA projector

SoundProof Room to put it all in (except the obivious like keyboard mouse joystick monitor speakers etc)

cant forget the tv card + remote

or with that much money buy one of those troop transport helicopters stick50 really nice PCs in it something to generate power and fly around and lan everywhere

I would get everything above, but I would use a very expensive SATA RAID controller, because onboard RAID doesnt really give good performance compared to a PCI card.

^^ heck - if we had unlimited funds - get one of the worlds to 500 Systems :D - a renderfarm so to say :d and the main rig has the top end video card - then have a custom O/S programmed that can run applications from windows / linux / mac and this O/S will do the multitasking for you - even though and app may not support multiple CPU's - the O/S would make it

Since money is no object - :D

I kind of whish people would not post threads like like this, i mean its one thing if you need a new comp and are looking for suggestions, but always give a buget, even if you just won the lottery.

oh and

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS

Theres no point in getting a dual, quad or any other number of processors for gaming. If you were managing a server with 4,000 PC's or doing Maya or 3d studio max or something then I would say that the FX 53 is the best gaming processor as of right now.

Even if I had no budget for a computer doesnt mean I would waste it on something that wouldnt do anything. A quad opteron would do just as good in gaming as one opteron would.

I also wouldnt get a prometia or any other extreme cooling. If I want the best gaming rig, I want to be able to take it on the go. I dont think taking a huge computer, with 4 prometia units very easy for lan parties.

if i was mega rich i would get somet like this:

FX-53
2 Gig OCZ PC3700EB
Both a X800XT PE and a 6800Ultra
Whatever best mobo is??
2 74Gig Raptors and a 500Gig Second HD
Prometia, or some major extreme cooling.
