Ello m8's i saved up about 150 Canadian and i was looking into a new vid card. My choices are

1. PowerColor Radeon™ 9550 256MB w/ DVI/TV-Out 8x AGP DX9 $125

2. ASUS Radeon™ 9550 128MB w/ DVI/TV-Out $95

3.MSI GeForce FX5700LE-TD128 128MB DDR w/ DVI/TV-Out $125

4. Sapphire Radeon™ 9550 256MB DDR Dual Head w/ TV-Out $116

Im a pretty big gamer i love FPS games and MMORPG's..I don have alot of cash to get the real good vid cards so these are my choices. I would like to know which card you would recommend...im not to great with video cards so i thought i would come here and ask around. Thanks in advance :p

Is that american funds? Are you buying online or from a specific place we can look for items in your price range? Out of those listed I am thinking the sapphire but its a tough call. I think in that range you might get a 9500pro or a 9700 with 8 pipes.

for 150 canadian, i'd try to find a 9700pro off of ebay, or maybe a refurb card from somewhere. i'd try to stay with a 256bit 8 pipe card, which the 5700 and 9550 are not.

where in canada are you?

I yhink you could get sonething better for your money. Some of the 9550 have 64bit mem bandwitdth so you got to check that first if it is it's not worth it and the 9550 cannot be softmodded to anything better by the way I wouldn't recomend paying more to have 256mb on mem on this card as it is not fast enough to use efficiently, and as games that will use that much video card ram will probably not run fast enough on that card anyway, the same goes to the geforce 5700LE some of them has the 64bit mem also(I don't know much about nvidia so I can't help you so much on that one) so I'd stay way from anything with 64bit mem. I'm looking for cards in the same price range but in dollars and I have found some 9600pro and even one 9600xt but I want something better and I'm waiting for a price drop or a sale.

My birthday is about midway in October so i guess i could jus get some ram or somthing with my money and get a 9600Xt for my birthday or somthing. maybe 9800 if prices drop. Im really thinking about that 9800se though.

Looking into these three:

Celestica ATI RADEON 9600XT 256MB w/ TV-Out, DVI $212

Sapphire Radeon™ 9800SE 128MB DDR OEM $184

PowerColor Radeon™ 9600XT 256MB w/ DVI/TV-Out OEM $217

I think a 9800se should perform better then a 9600 but not a 9600xt (not sure on this one) but if I was you I wouldn't spend that money and just save some more for a 9800pro or np or a 9700pro if you can find it. I just don't think that a 9600xt is worth the price.

the 9800se may have a chance to mod to a full 9800pro i think. read the stickies, i know some 9800se's can. if so, that would be your best deal right there.

but i know on ebay there was a guy selling 9700pro's for $115 american. that would be in your price range. he's got lots (18 i think) if you do a search on ebay for 9700pro. i recommended that to a friend not 2 days ago.

i got a sapphire 9800se that softmodded to 9800pro no problems. oc's from 325/290 to 400/385 on stock coolong with no artifacts. 5800+ 3dmark03 score, set me back $132 at newegg.com

yeah, the 128bits suck, even with 8 pipes, so make sure it has the "L" shape RAM, not the "I" shape RAM

make sure you got a agp 8 slot too..

i got a agp4 and my 9800pro wont even go to xt. ...guess i also have a very VERY unstable psu ...damn dells and there 250watts

but yea.. if u get the 9800se ..you shold be able to get it to pro .....not sure if it can be xt..

edit..

heres a videocard.. that WILL go to a pro. Sapphire Radeon™ 9800SE 128MB DDR OEM

sapphire makes nice cards so.. for a bit more.. its worth it

nice.. i hope to hear how everything goes (that means pm me ..i cant remember my name at times so.. )

unless u keep this thread..

are you going to change the cooler from stock? .. if not then the least you can do for a cheep price is take some as5 and put it on ...the stock heatsink is easy to take off..

so yea..GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN ...pics if u can too
