I need to check if a program is using video memory to store images that it swaps to the screen. Is there a way to to see how much video memory is being used?

I dont know if there is but I can tell you its not more than 2mb's because my sister runs WinXP with a 2mb rage onboard chip and never has any problems displaying 2d graphics.

It is 37 images that are about 1000 x 900 with 1 byte indexed color. This would take up about 30 MB of memory uncompressed. The program actually uses 28 MB of memory. I want to determine whether the images are compressed in system memory or stored in video memory.

The hardware extraction layer, OpenGL or Exceed all have a chance to take care of not having enough memory in a system without video memory.
