yup the semprons never had 64 bit extension on it. They are the equivalent of a duron.

Yes you can get both Socket A and Socket 754 Semprons. The Socket A is just a Tbred whereas the Socket 754 does have the on-cpu memory controller like the A64's but no 64 bit capability. Socket 939 Semprons are pencilled in for next year.

I jsut got done reading about the Semprons from Tom's Hardware...from what i just read Sempron is both...sort of. you can have a Sempron Socket A or a Sempron Socket 939 with the 64 bit removed or disbled. I get that right? Basically Sempron is the name of there value line.

A semperon is to an athlon 64 what a celeron is to a pentium.

A PIII-based celeron is not even similar to a P4-based celeron. If Intel can use a naming scheme like that, why not AMD?
That's what you have here, pure and simple.

Sempron also has 256k L2 cache over the 512k the newcastle has and the 1mb the Clawhammer has. So a 3100+ Sempron is still slower or equal to a 2800+ newcastle.

Considering the price's the 2800+ newcastle would be the better choice if you were going S754
