Avatars and Flash

I did a search and didn't see anything about this but why can't we use Flash to make avatars? The file sizes are small and in some cases smaller than other image files and they can be made to look really good. I was just asking because I wanted to make a BOINC SETI avatar using it.

That would be cool. An avatar with a sound would be cool too.

LMAO.. I second that. I can already hear 24 flash sounds going boing-splutter-crash-scream-hollar-gunshot-sigh over my speakers.

Although a fun idea anyhow.

Perhaps without sound, yes, but I dont know if perhaps there is more opportunity for abuse there ie links and stuff within avatars and so forth. Keeping it simple: gif, jpeg, png, etc is the best idea IMHO.

I second that. In reality the avatar(at least for me) is just so I can quickly find my last post, as well as my favorite members, or less-than-favorite members. It's more of an identity thing than a fashion... thing. Like a nametag.
