did search, but.....(SATA)

ABit AN7 mobile barton 2500+
12X220
stable as all get out for 5 months

I made a simple change resently. I added a Maxtor 120 gig SATA drive..straight tot he board no adaptors. I imaged the drive with Norton ghost and all was well.

BOOM my first BSD ever on this board. and I lost my NTLDR file. was able to repair that and continue fine.

today i started using the machine and I got spontainious reboots and 1 more BSD nothing has changed to this system other than the sata drive.

BIOS is the Tic_Tac 17 version, and the sata drivers are version SL 1.0.0.47

for the sake of trying all my options I turned up my voltage rails on my ANTEC true control 550.

not much is running on it @ the moment as it is out of the case and sitting on standoff on my wooden destop...right in front of my AC unit. Water cooling and well temps are just phenominal. HDDs are not in the direct path of the AC unit as I hear they do not to get too cold.

1 side note here. the ANTEC true control 550 has a MOLEX power plug on the back of it. I just now moved it from that and onto a regular Molex rail. I am praying this sorts the problem.

thru my searches I found conflicting reports on SATAs and overclocking. the pci clock is locked so I should think this isn't the issue, but for sake of argument I clocked down to 210X12 and fired up and ran again. same problems after about 30 minutes.

Any suggestion fellers?

Is your OS running off this drive? If so put in your old and see what happens. I'm thinking it's just a bad drive.

eek thats a pain in there arse...also for some unknown flipping reason the NTLDR files are now on what use to be the main drive....if I copy all of the images over there and then change the boot files to point to that drive do you recon it would work?

I had..and I know this sounds wierd...1 40 gig ATA 100 drive as my main on IDE 0/0 an 120 gig ATA 133 0/1

added a SATA 120 gig and images the original C:\ to the new SATA drive..all was well till the BSOD. I have disabled the auto reboot and I am waiting for it to happens again. I removed the pagefile from the sata drive and placed it on the ATA 133. we shall see what has become of this. I messed with my clock speeds and that only seems to prolong this effect...time will tell when i get my first BSOD and I can read the information.

whelp i did a fresh install on the SATA and removed the PATA's and still BSOD
removed SATA replaced new OS on PATA and all is fine again.....I am thinking this either a bad drive or the AN7 and my hgh OC aren't playing nice with the SATA.

while it did work I would like to mention i didn't feel or notice any improvements my ata 133 8mb chace drives still seemed faster....need to try a raptor now

Yes it seems you've got the problem nailed down to the drive or SATA controller. Also, people are often misinformed about SATA....it's NOT any faster, it should be exactly the same as ATA133 drives, the only thing sata can do that ATA133 does is 150mb/s on one channel....but no 7200 drive is gonna burst much over a 100mb/s let a lone sustained.
