Hi, i heard this from one of my friends, is it true that the 9800pro is not powerful enough to utilise the 256mb ram? so the 256mb version are even worse then the 128mb version?!

Untrue.

The amount of RAM a card has determines how many textures or how large of levels can be stored on the card. A card with a lot of RAM can store a lot of texture and level data, while a card with little RAM can store less. If a complex game is loaded on a 128MB and a 256MB card, the card with 256MB will likely run it a bit smoother, since the data will already be on the card. The 128MB card will have to make texture or level requests more frequently, reducing performance.

The amount of RAM a card can use is not dependant on how powerful it is. That said, the amount of performance difference between 128MB and 256MB cards can shrink depending on the game. While a 256MB card will always handle a complex game better than a 128MB card (since it has to make less texture / level requests), other areas of the card may become bottlenecks. Really slow cards (like the 9600se) probably won't see much of an increase from added RAM, but a 9800pro is plenty fast enough to benifit from the added RAM on complex games.
