I'm trying to setup VMWare Workstation 4.0 with Windowx XP Pro as the host operating system, and Linux ES 3.0 as the guest. I tried the default network settings in VMWare, but my Linux virutal machine can not get get a valid IP. I can ping 127.0.0.1, but it won't resolve any IPs from my cable modem or router. I've tried different settings on eth0, but I think it has something to do with VMWare's network settings, as opposed to the operating system configuration. Anyone have any recommendations?

What is the virtual machine's network settings set to? (inside the VM's configuration in VMWare)? Is it Host-only, NAT, Direct connection..?

Try setting it to NAT, or if you have a router, set it to Direct connection.
