Urgent question on TI-86 Calculator

Well I am getting a ti-86 calc soon and I wanna get a link cable so I can put some games and programs on my calculator. At amazon.com they are selling the USB connectivity link cables for about $10 shipped and I would like to get one of those. Except there's one problem; on amazon's site they list that the usb link cable does not work with a ti-86. Although on texas instruments site they list that the usb cable does in fact work on a ti-86. So if anyone on this forums has a TI-86 calculator and can asure me that the usb connectivity link cable will work on a ti-86 calculator then I will be very appreciated and thankful. (I also want to get this tonight and I have some friends that could use this cable too .) Thanks guys!

Well I guess if it doesn't work, I'll sell the usb one to a friend and just buy the black graphlink cable.

from personal experience the usb cable will work with a ti-86, however it took the use of a 3rd party software to get it goin. But it does work I can vouch for it.

actually with a quick look education.ti.com says:

Quote:
The TI Connectivity Cable USB for Windows®/Mac® and TI Connect software are compatible with the TI-73 Explorer?, TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, TI-86, TI-89, TI-89 Titanium, TI-92, TI-92 Plus, and Voyage? 200.
so that would mean it will work with the ti-86, must be a new software version, but like I said there is 3rd party software that will let you use your 86 with the usb cable.

edit one more time

i found the software i used here is the direct link to it otherwise it can be found at this site here and it is the TiLP v.6.75 with DLL's. TiLP is a universal cable Universal calculator software that will work on all major OS's so this would be a good reference for you linux/BSD guys out there

and as always make sure the cable is unplugged while installing the software

seriously, you must have friends with that same calculator, and belive me the games do get boring, and you find something better to do. And most teachers will either confiscate or test the durability of that particular model of calculator if you get caught.

Well being a kid with free time after I'm done with my work (or the 3 study halls that I have ), my teachers would care less. Anywho, hopefully I can get this to work because I really don't feel like having to order another cable once I recieve the calculator.

Yeah the graphics are a little better, but there are quite a few good games for a 86. Once I get my 86 I'm gonna paint the cover a nice anadoized blue and put the o/c symbol (big O then lightning bolt then big C) using black for the letters and chrome for the lightning bolt. Should come out pretty good.

I have connected the ti-86 to a computer with the silver usb cable. I borrowed the cable from a friend and downloaded the software from TI's website. Piece of cake.
