Best cooling for taking 3.2E to 4Ghz?

This was originaly posted to pro cooling, but it was suggested i post here too!

I recently got my grubby hands on a shiny new pressy 3.2E for a new system build. I already ordered and received my ASUS P4C800E-Deluxe, and will be using my trusty Corsair PC3200XLPRO for the memory.

I also just received a beatiful case from silverstone, the TJ-06. [REVIEW] I will be doing custom window mods for the side and top blowhole. I plan to use the dual 120mm blowhole as the radiator mount/shroud/exhaust. (pics coming as available).

I currently have a great watercooling setup with a supra heater core, fusionHL and a TDX. Problem is the TDX is for athlonXP and not P4.

Since i have to upgrade the CPU block anyway, i figured why not go for the gusto and jump to TEC. I am strongly considering swiftechs offerings in the MCW5002-PT and the matching MCW50-T for a 9800XT.

My question is.... Is this block (properly powered with a meanwell) sufficient to get to 4Ghz, or will it require a TEC upgrade, OR should i do something else even crazier ? Will my HC (with dual 120mm fans) be sufficient?

As a side question, is there an easy way to control voltage a FSB with a p4 setup like this from windows? I would idealy like to "Crank It Up" to 4GHz only for games, and otherwise let it idle at stock settings.

Thanks in advance!

More than likely, but that all depends on the efficiency of your watercooling setup. If you want the guaranteed 4 GHz, get a mach II or lightspeed, that will definitely get you there or beyond.

Before we go any farther, letts hear what your chip is up to already. If it is at 3.9 on stock air, you don't need a vapo chill. If it's at 3.5 with water, then you would need the vapochill just for a chance at it. You might just get lucky, my 3.2E on air will hit 3.97 on a normal day, and has been prime stable at 4.03 on a cooler day. Who knows what water could do. If I were to bet money, I would say you have a good chance at 4.0 with the best water rig.

I don't have anything installed yet. I need to purchase a cooling solution first. Right now, it's just a bare processor!

Thanks for the reply!

hmm, then maybe look for a phase system if you can afford it. it's a healthy investment for the future as well

Do you have any heatsinks at all? You could just by a $20 heatsink somewhere and try it out. If all you want is 4ghz, then it would be a shame if you bought a vapochil when the chip could have gotten there on stock air. My personal philosophy is buy whatever you can afford and overclock as far as you can go.

yeah but if you buy a phase change and can get to 4ghz on air wont you most likely get a even higher oc with a phase change system. So i say if you have the money go phase change other wise just go water cooling.
