OCZ powerstream

Wow...Great supply! /sarcasm

Get it in the mail today, unwrap it with glee, streak upstairs to pop it in place, hook everything up, plug it in, turn it on, turn on computer

*POP!*
*blue flash*

Shorting the Gree-ground doesnt work, it doesnt come on at all anymore.

What a great way to waste $129

*note*
I _do_ know how to put it in, and it went into place EXACTLY where my antec left off. Fortunatley, it didn't take any of my stuff with it.

gonna try to RMA it tommorow

do you think it was faulty, or do you think you messed up?
the voltage setting(115/230) in the back was set correctly i assume.

I'm willing to bet faulty, because it was fresh out of the box, I even made sure to double check to see if it was at 115.

I know I couldnt have done anything, since it DOES have overcurrent/short protection, which would just trip a breaker inside of it. The popping I heard sounded like a light bulb exploding to be honest

Sounds like RMA time

This would make the third OCZ death in about 5 weeks I've seen on these forums - not ready to drop them from my recommendations, but the frequency of these failures has me a little bit concerned. Then again, I've seen isolated rashes of Antec units do this too, so I'll wait and see what happens in another five or six weeks.

If the failures keep happening at a regular pace I may need to re-evaluate my list of recommended PSUs. If two or three fail within a short period of time and then weeks or months pass before another failure or failures, I won't be quite so worried. The very popularity of these units will then tell me only a few isolated failure cases are happening

I think if this next unit doesnt work, I'm going to ask to switch it with a forton 530, I think they're less anyways?

AFAIK the 530w is cheaper, but I would also suggest looking at the AX-500 and 550w units; being more 12v oriented units.

I don't think Topower/OCZ's failure rate is bad enough to make two back to back failures very likely... I wouldn't be too worried about it. Deer, OTOH, I can see failing several times in a row

Yep - 460w according to Fortron's spec sheet.

Guys,

OCZ has sold a LOT of 520W PSU's. A majority of our customers are enthusiasts, so the failed PSU's are going to be posted on the forum. With that said, we have a 5 Year Warranty on the PowerStream PSU's and advance ship replacements via FedEX to anybody with a defective unit within the first 3 years, as long as they can provide a receipt or invoice via e-mail or fax.

Had a feeling

That's why I'm not panicking just yet - if only 3 out of, say, 300 are failing that's not a high failure rate at all. 5 year warranty is definitely a big plus, too.

OCZ is all about us overclockers. I highly doubt there is some sort of quality problem. Think of all the ones that work & the fact that any kind of equipment can be DOA. Need to give these guys more credit in my opinion.....OCZ has brought some great things to the overclocking community.

I have 2 Powerstreams in my rig. 1 520 and 1 470 and I haven't had any problems in the 2 months I have had them.

OCZ has the best customer service I have ever dealt with!!! I wouldn't worry about getting the unit replaced. They will probably even cross ship one to you!! All you have to do is email them and they answer VERY quickly

Interesting... I haven't started recommending the 600w yet, and based on this new information, I may not until the price comes down quite a bit and I am convinced it's reliable and worth the money.

My recommendations continue for the 420w, 470w, and 520w only.
