newbie in video oc... some silly questions?

i used to oc my gf4xm440 but that was silly... got it over 375/350 from 275/300 with very little performance boost. now i've got a geforce4 ti4200 (msi). i can't get over 275 on the core (from 250)... i've seen a lot of people getting over 300.
Anyway... my questions were: what do i gain if i change the agp bus from 66MHz to something higher and does it help if i increase the agb voltage? *i think it's 1.5 stock). another thing... is there any difference between using the drivers or low-level overclocking on the video card (i'm using rivatuner) and does it help if i use "motherboard chipset compatibility mode"?

Yep I hear its the regulators on the card that make adjusting these settings useless. Please correct me if I am wrong.
