I loved the arguements people had with comparing 1280x960 to 1280x1024 resolutions. The fact is, 1280x960 is proper while 1280x1024 is just a bad standard in display resolution. 1280x1024 is 5:4 ratio and not 4:3 like 99% of the monitors out there. Its strange how 1280x1024 is so popular yet when you full screen it on your monitor, your monitor becomes stretched horizontally and images become distorted.

I run 1280x960 @ 100hz with my 19" CRT.

What resolution's do you guys/gals run at with your displays when playing games?

i always wondered why 1280x1024 looked funny
thats what i played at, but now i will try o switch to 1280x960

19", i run my regular rez 1280x960 @85hz, but in games its always different. for example i play UT2k4 at 1024x768 because it gives me a much crisper aim. CS i play at 800x600 and COD i play at 1280x960.

I keep my screen resolution at 1280*1024 and, therfore, attempt to play games at 1280*1024.

I never checked to see the aspect ratio of 1280*1024, but I don't think I'd want to give up my extra desktop space by dropping to a 4:3 aspect ratio now.

I run at 1024x768 in a 19" CRT at 90 Hz. The monitor and the card can do more but I like to keep the framerates up especially for online gaming.

i usually run my 19" at 1600x1200 75+hz, just now i turned it down to 1280x960 to see what 85hz looked like, and...i see no difference, so im sticking with 1600x1200
in games, usually 1600x1200, if they're demanding, 1280x960

I am using a 19" TFT which has a native resolution of 1280x1024 - so in that case 1280x960 looks distorted...also play all games at 1280x1024 :)

I'm the odd one out. I find 1024x768 not large enough, but 1280x1024 too large.

I run my dualies at 1152x864 @ 75 Hz. And therefore, I run all my games at that if I can. If I can't, I'll step it down to 1024x768 @ 75 Hz. :)

I never run higher than 1024x768 for games. I just never really felt the need...I once tried running jedi knight higher though because I get literally 500fps in that game. But the HUD was to small to read. :) For desktops I run it as high as I can without squinting.

I normally use 1024x768 in games. I've got a 17" LCD and a 9800np and anything else lower FPS by quite a bit.

I have a 19" CRT (why does that sound dirty?) and I run games at the highest setting my stock 9600se will allow and with these new games isn't much.

I always thought higher was better. After going through the video stress test on Cs source I determined I like 1024 much better that 1280 . I just see things crispier and better looking. The exra FPS is a plus too. I can max the settings on both, I like 1024 much better though and I get 100hz as opposed to 85.
Anybody else like 1024 better?

Oh and I have Viewsonic G90 19inch CRT
1024 x 786 @ 100Hz
1280 x 960 @ 85HZ

I generally run everything (games, desktop) at 1280x1024 @ 100hz. Though for most single player games and America's Army I'll usually run 1600x1200 - 85hz. But whatever resolution I run at, all the details have to be maxed out :D. So if my pc can't handle maxed details at 1600x1200 I'll drop it down to 1280x1024 in most cases.

That's interesting what you said in the first thread about 1280x1024 not being a standard aspect ratio. I'd never thought about that before and just figured since I saw people using it so often that it was 4:3. I'll probably stick with it though because I just tried x960 and I'm so used to x1024 that x960 looked to big and grainy.

I'll suffer drops below 30fps if I can run at 1600x1200 with high detail. No AA or AF, but who needs it at 1600x1200? Doom 3 I could only run at either 800x600 with AA/AF or 1024x768 with no AA/AF, but that game sucked anyway. HL2 runs great at 1280x960 however.

1280x960 here usually running 6x/16x AA/AF

I have tried 1600 with lesser aa /af settings and to me it looks like bupkis.

1280x1024 75Hz cos otherwise it looks like arse on my LCD. The increase in numbers of pixels that need to be rendered = a consummate drop in FPS (50->34 in the case of UT2004) so I play without AF/AA.

ok here it is simple. LCDs, run at 5:4 ratios, while CRTs run at 4:3 rations. LCD-1280X1024, CRT-1280X960.

I run at 1024X768 because the extra fps, higher refresh rate, and the overall coolness of it is too much for you all to comprehend. Thats why I run it.
