Mandrake linux seems to be the distribution of choice at the moment

SuSE 7.2 is my top pick of all the Linux distro's at the moment. Mandrake 8 is also very nice you would do well with either of these fine distro's. If you are new to Linux I suggest buying the boxed version at the store instead of downloading because it comes with very nice manuals geared twords the newbie.

I'm gonna give Mandrake 8.0 a try soon. I've ran Mandrake 6.0 and liked it. I had an old version of both Red Hat and Slackware in years past. I liked the Red Hat better of those two but I'm not sure if that means anything today. I wouldn't put the money into a store packaged version but then that's probably just because I'm a cheap b@&+@rd.

I read about linux and am also curious about trying it out. I was going to post tonight but someone already beat me to it. From what i read it is similiar to dos commands. I noticed you can run Linux as a secondary OS along with windows. Can anyone describe the advantages over windows , how it can work along with windows, and also provide screen shots to how it looks on you r monitor? Does it have icons to click on or just a command box. Is it hard to find software or drivers that run with with Linux? I need as much info as i can before deciding on using it. Their web page seems not to show screen shots only article all in text.

For beginners, I recommend Mandrake, but once you have a good grasp on what the basic packages a Linux distro uses and what packages you need, I say migrate to Debian.

SUSE 7.2 is really good.

Look for any distro with a kernel 2.4.1 or greater, Xfree86 4.0.1 or greater, KDE 2 or greater and GNOME 1.4
