Hi I am attempting to upgrade a laptop cpu from this one---

http://processorfinder.intel.com/sc...cFam=826&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=ALL

To this one---

http://processorfinder.intel.com/sc...cFam=826&PkgType=ALL&SysBusSpd=ALL&CorSpd=ALL

They are both Package Type 478 pin PPGA FC-PGA2 and all indications were that I could upgrade this laptop this way. However, the back of the cpu's look different. In the middle of all the pins on the back... the small transistor looking things are arranged differently on the 2.5 ghz versus the original 1.8. What are these things btw??? Anyone??? Also, is there any way I can get this 2.5 ghz to post??
Thanks in advance |)

u should probably look into getting a dothan. a fraction of the power consumption as a p4 and good processing power for gaming and most applications.

I'd go for a Dothan also. They may be a little spendy now but they're good chips. Low power consumption, low heat, and they do a pretty good job keeping up with the higher end chips when it comes to gaming considering it's low frequency.

Thanks, I might do that in the future, but for now I am trying to figure out how to $alvage my investment in this cpu. I need to find out if I can rearrange the resistors on the back of the 2.5 gig. I am still not sure if this is even necessary, or if possibly the chip is DOA, but either way, wdf. I thought that ANY mobile p4-M with the same package type would work. Sandra 2000 SAYS THE MAINBOARD SUPPORTS UP TO 2.5 GIGS.
Any help is appreciated:)
