I'm planning to install a wireless network. Would I notice a difference when I do online gaming?

I'm also confuse with some of the termalogy when choosing a wireless router. The specs say up to 11mbps or 54mbps and some up to 108mbps. When considering an adapter what will make my gaming connection seamless?

maybe a drop less performance with speed. not much at all. go out and get that router. just make sure u have the firewall enabled on it. good luck

IMO just save your money and get a 54g.

11b would be fine too if your reallly really cheap

108 isn't worth it, as its just proprietary crap, not really a standard

i agree, 54G is verry littel more than 11b, and 108 is tough to maintian because of the equip isnt standard.

Besides, 54G wireless would never impede a bandwidth as low as your internet connection.

we've got a .G network here at the house and my roomate and I can play online gaming no problem, were hooked up to bellsouth dsl extream and pings never go higher than 70ms ever. Not bad. Make sure you use 128bit WPA encryption on your wireless setup do NOT use WEP, talk about easy to hack...

I use a Netgear (WG624) G/108Mbps for 2 rigs and I do get 108 speeds most of the time ; but do to a neighbor using the same channel I must resort to a differant channel with a lower 54Mbps speed . Both speeds the ping(s) in gaming are the same and very close to wired speeds that I had used before the WiFi for the last 5-6yrs .
I did notice though before I changed channels , even though I was set to 108/G speeds ONLY and my neighbor was using 10/b speeds ONLY , sharing the same channel produced very slow internet and gaming speeds . Going to a differant channel cured the problem instantly .

108/netgear seems like the way to go! Abit pricy though...

I use the WG311T (v2)HERE . I purchased mine at Amazon.com for $50 w/ -$20 MIR = $30 LINKY .

On a side note , I found this was the only problem I ran across with WinXP and SP2 .....

1.) If you use the Netgear application to monitor/manage your Wifi stuff then you MUST disable the "wireless-zero" in the "Adminstative tools" in the control panel for things to work correctly ( start/settings/contrpl panel/administative tools/services/wireless zero ; and put to "DISABLE"

2.) If you use WindowsXP to monitor/manage your Wifi , then you MUST disable the Netgear application (start /run / then TYPE IN: msconfig / then look in "startup"/ then DISABLE or UN-CHECK the line saying "GEAR 311T".

Ive done ALOT of testing on this and this is the ONLY method(s) Ive found to work correctly (and this is not mentioned by Netgear or Microsoft) . I too had to do this on my brothers setup , but with a WG614 v3 router and the same WG311T Wifi card

Besides the above mentioned note , I have had zero problems with my setup .
