you have a couple of options, the 9800pro used is still a good deal, if you can't find it used then get a 66000gt or for a couple of bucks more you can get a 6800nu, there is also the 6800LE and the X800se which came out lately that I don't know much about, but I'm pretty sure if they are any good someone else will know a little more about them.

plain 6800, 6800nu

i'd say get a x800pro if all you do is game, they could be had for a little over your budget but definitly worth it imho, if you are firm on the 300$ then get the 6800nu, upgrading from a 9600xt to 9800pro is not worth the time and money imho

The 6800NU is a great card, UNLESS you want to do HD video as the onboard VPU is not fully functional. If thats the case and HD video is desired I would go the 6600GT or x800 series, hell even a 9800pro in that case. If as you said your going to drop 300 and HD video is not necessary then go 6800NU. I will have an x800pro soon to go with my 6800NU and 9800XT so I will be able to give a good hands on comparison between the 3.

I dont think the 9800xt will beat the 6600GT even at high res will it? Not that I dont believe you, but I would be interested in seeing the actual benches. I know my 6800NU with 128 still slapped my 9800XT like a red headed step chile even at 1600x1200

but

For $300, we should be getting 256MB. the 9800XT is like a 6600GT with 256MB. IF u want kid, go for the x800SE which is what I almost bought. Good luck in ur final decision.

Thank 4 all the help....I was really dissapointed n the 96xt that I was going 2 forget about ATI all together ..But that X800 is calling my name

I personally would buy an EVGA 6600gt or 6800nu then use the EVGA step up program to get a 6800gt or ultra in a couple of months.

But if you can find a x800pro for $325-350 that would do just as well.

so ur buying a x800SE? try a used 9800XT also. trust me, its fast

I wouldn't really be looking at the 9800xt's anymore. If you are looking for the 9800xt, it may make more sense to go for the 9800pro 128mb and flash that up. If you can, I would get the x800pro though.
