If you have a 6800 and have the freezing problem. Which brand card do you have? Im trying to find out if its only isolated to certain companys.

Me and friend had freezing rebooting problems until we switched windows XP service pack 2 to service pack 1 i made the switch last night and i have no problems @ all.

So the freezing issues could be something else software related not hardware.

Good idea. Thats about the only thing I havent tried. Do I have to do a system restore to switch back to sp1?

No i just went in the ADD removoe programs and uninstall SP2. Ignore when it says these programs may not work without SP2 on and just continue the uninstall. It might uninstall DX9.0c which it did for me. Just install DX9 back on and go to the windows update and install SP1 instead.

All my rebooting and locking up in certain games gone im so happy.

my freezing went away by disabling FW, its not a GPU problem, its either software or compatibility issue, same card was in my xp rig and didn't have any problems at all with FW on

i have FW off and still get the odd lock-up, is the sp1 worth a try ?, has anyone heard anything from NVidia about this, seems a really big prob

I called PNY as Nvidia doesnt support thier card's on the phone because they dont make them only the GPU's. PNY guy said basicly I dunno..

You try should SP1 and get rid of 2 you dont have to reformat just uninstall SP2.

Computers suck... its the oddest things that will finally make some product work....if you're having problems listen... I posted this to a guy in another forum... he had a similar problem to me....

"the following is a almost complete transcript of me and a guy at BFG tech support about my problem with a BFG 6800nu....Its extremely similar it seems to me.... I finally solved it by adding an off the board sound card (actually well see if it truely works, but i just got done playing a game for 3 hours with no hint of a problem...usually it was every 10 minutes i would get a freeze)!! But anyways who knew it would be solved by a dang sound card! but my instinct about IRQ sharing seem'ed to be right (as you'll see).... the following is in reverse order.... Keep trying.... it may be the ODDEST things thats not making it work

Remember this correspondance is in reverse order"

<<< Correspondance Ends>>>

"Well you can see our previous correspondance below and I followed it. No luck on
getting the freezing problem to go away! I'll run through what I did since we last
talked. I did the following...

-I downloaded and installed the 6.14 beta drivers from the link Guru3d. By the
way, what made you think I had version 5.10 before?

-I also followed the steps 1-9 found below, the ones Nvidia reccomends. I assume
step 9 of that list was completed with the install of the 6.14 betas I got from
guru3d? <<< This seems like an important question???

To give you a snap shot of where my system stands. I have a Athlon64 3200+ from
Compaq (presario model number s6900nx), Mobo is a OEM asus board model K8N8X-LA- it
has the most up to date Compaq Bios- ver3.11 relased last September (asus doesn't
support this exact model of board...Grrrrr , 1gig pc3200 ddr ram, 430watt Antec
PSU, Windows SP1 (have tried SP2 and it doesnt help), Rivatuner has the Blitting
settings you prescribed, My 6800oc is sitting on an unshared IRQ, DirectX 9 has been
reinstalled, Running 67.03 graphics drivers (have tried many using DriverHeaven
Cleaner between each install,) Have turned off Sygate Software firewall and im not
behind a router, 6800oc is well seated and runs at 52 degrees Celcius at full load
(your cooling system is very nice), Have determined that it's not just Joint
Operations game that freezes...it is all games that I happen to play.

end of update....

Mark im going to say give me a quick ring on my cell phone if you feel the need
to... nick said you'll be in at 7....Ill be up and at home... give me a ring if ya
can... (Matt xxx-xxx-xxxx) Either way.... let me know what you really think!
