case tempurature monitor

my friend goes it won't work unless my motherboard supports it, is that true?

What motherboard are you talking about? If your mobo has a temp sensor then:

However, if you mobo doesn't have a sensor then other options are buying fan controllers that have temp. probes or a case that has these built in.
