Bored on a cold winters day.... WC'd Rig below ambient...

Well it is cold winters day here in wisconsin ~14F outside pretty boring... So I was sitting around pretty bored and I got an idea... What if I pumped some of that cold air into my WC'd Rig and It's H/C...
I decided to conduct and expieriment....
To pump the cold air in, I used my big ole' shop vac...
I simply used it's reverse flow mode I attached one hose to the intake and ran it out my window to take in cold air. The other hose went on the blower output and pumped the cold air into a makeshift shroud for my H/C built from a shoebox! I also reversed the flow on my 120mm panaflow which normally blows through my H/C to take in the cold air which was being pumped to the H/C internally into the system as well...
Well needless to say it got a little noisey with the shop vac but it worked rather nicely! I think the air got heated a bit going through the shop vac's intake system though, as the temp of the air being pumped in was ~36F. Also not a DROP of condensation formed in or on my case, my office was about ~70F.
Attached are some screenshots of the system running, and some benchmark results from my little expeiriment. My sig' contains the specs and the link to pics of my rig.

Very nice cooling results, I am hoping to try this sometime soon here in Michigan, just a little worried about snow getting in there. Great work!

btw: Where did you get that wallpaper? It looks cool!

I duct taped a screen on the beveled floor attachment put that on the intake tube end and faced it down @ my deck. My window is ~5 feet above my deck so I figured with the screen on the attachment, the height clearence, and no snow in the forecast I'd be alright
I was just surfing the net for AMD wallpapers and I ran across it... Here it is attached as 1280x1024 High quality JPG

I am a few above ambient(70F) now too on air, I also have an intake to the outside....30c CPU temp but what the hell I have been told this is impossible without extreme cooling.

Nice to see someone else taking advantage of the outside temps......

what would be wrong with getting a 30ft loop of tube and attaching so that the coil is mostly outside...you would be great if the water kept moving and did not turn solid ice...just an idea if you get bored agin

Thanks for the wallpaper reply, it's now happily residing underneath this open window. Speaking of windows I should open the one in my room up, its currently about 8 degrees Fahrenheit out there. Brr...

wow chillin' the whole room down Brrrrrrr....
I stuffed foam in the open gap of the window and around the hose, so the cold air could not get in, except for through the intake hose....

its still the ambient temperature of the air being pumped into it

room temp and ambient temp are two different things

but yes, cold air is very useful
