Old Heat Sink As Chipset cooler?

Well I have this old 500Mhz celeron Gateway and it has one of those big aluminum heatsinks with no fan, its about 4 inchecs tall, how would this work as a NB Chipset Hs if I cut it down to size and thermal taped it on?
