is there anyting cool i could do with it ??

i have no clue when it comes along the line of this but could i use it as a network monitor ?? maybe have a firewall or ineternet / antivirus protecting my main computer ??

Server of some sort. Think about it, unless you have some high load website you could have almost 2 hours of time before your system would go out.

Leave the battery out, shove linux on it and bam you have a nice little firewall if you run it off the mains.

thats a great idea, in case I get an old notebook, I ll give this a shot
I am using a old Toshiba P133, 3gig hdd for old games, running win98 on it. Took me quite a while to set it up, cos that thing doesn't have a floppy, neither is it able to boot from cd ;P I had a 2.5"USB IDE adapter which want detected by any small linux versions or by windows setup ;[ A 2.5" IDE adaptor was the final solution to get win 98 on it Playing Leisure Suit Larry 7 with it atm, which didn't run on XP. So if you wanna play some old games, that old notebook will be good enough for it.

My old notebook is quite noisy and tbh I don't really trust the fan to run 24/7 without my attention. Thats why I dont use it as firewall, etc.

Lol, Always nice to have an older system for old games. Like "The even more incredible machine" It will run perfectly on Windows XP, but it runs so freaking fast that it is imposable. I need to figure out how to run it on my laptop 1.2ghz laptop or my 3.0ghz desktop, I guess I could boot into a special Linux install after undercooking my system to 200mhz or something.

I had one and it made a very capable MP3 stereo. Couple it with a scan converter and you have a quiet, space-saving HTPC as well.

But of course mine had ethernet so I was serving everything over the network. Unless they're REALLY old, they should still be capable of mp3 playback.

get an external tv card for it and turn it into a second monitor for your main rig or throw vnc on it so you can controll your rig anywhere in your house.

or try a car installation, too tired to find linky, but makes a great mp3/cd car jukebox and if you can dash-mount the screen you can run map software (even get a gps card) on the thing
