I had contacted PCP&C about when their new 850W PSU is going to be on sale and this is what they replied:
Very interesting, can't wait for it. Talk about total overkill
Dear Sir,
It is still going to be a few weeks before the 850ETX is available for
General sale -- probably February. All of the initial production
is going to Alienware for there state-of-the-art ALX line. This line is dual
PCI Express video and dual Xeon.
Note the 510 Express is designed to handle "any" single and dual processor
systems with a single high performance video card like the 6800 Ultra, 6800
GT and ATI X800XT. The 510 Express has more +12 Volt power available than
any of our competitors especially the Enermax line. Note the EG701AX-VE is
really a 480 Watt supply with only 280 Watts available on the +12 Volt rails
even though they rate each +12 V output (V1 & V2) for +17 Amps and +18 Amps
respectively. There maximum operating temp is approximately 40 Deg C (there
spec) and ours is based on 50 Deg C. Like older design ATX supplies there
emphasis is on the +5 V & +3.3 Volt rails where the least power in the
system is used. The 510, and soon to be released 850ETX, emphasize the +12
Volt rails and provide more than 75% of there power to the +12 Volt rails.
The Enermax less than 50%... Our MTBF is based on full load not 70% as
stated in there specifications.
Thanks for contacting us.
Best Regards,
Russ Smith
