Specs for Pentium M vs Pentium 4

Hey guys I'm looking for some bar graphs or something to show how a Pentium M in a notebook compares to a Pentium 4 in a desktop in sheer number crunching so that I can explain it easier to other people. Can anyone show me some specs? i had found some a good time back on intels website but now can't find them. Thanks

gee i wonder why i didn't think of that. Next time don't post. First off if i just relied on google for everything then why the hell would i need the forums. Secondly you don't easily find any benchmarks like that for the Pentium M vs the P4. You get Pentium M vs. other Pentium M's and Pentium 4 M's and Pentium III M's however there are no Desktop comparisons that I came by. No "the pentium M at 1.6ghz matched our dell setup with a 2.8ghz P4".... Next time you want to be a smart@ss make it in your own post.

i found just what you were looking for, but i dont remember the site. i found it on google. then i get a free minute, i will poke around for it. if you are wondering, the PM absolutly slaughtered the 3.2E and the AMD's used in the test. it was really cool.

this isnt what i was thinking of. but its pretty cool to read.

Thinking of the Dothan in a desktop mobo made by dfi i think it was for the Dothan 2.0Ghz at 2.4Ghz?

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.p...ghlight=dothan
Might help you.

If there was a dothan 2.4ghz that would be great....

Don't insult someone unless you have already taken their advice

http://www.anandtech.com/linux/showdoc.aspx?i=2308

It's in linux but is a good comparison against P4, A64, AXP, etc.

Quite obviously you didn't look at what I suggested, because just as I alluded to, at least the first four hits on Google with that exact search string came up with Dothan and/or Banias comparo's against standard desktop P4's, AXP's and A64's.

Perhaps if you took things less personally (it is only a website) and actually look/listen to what someone mentions, you'd get further in life as a whole. Why should anyone serve you up on a silver platter that which could be found with 30 seconds of your own work? Google is by far the most intuitive search engine on the planet, and it took me around 8.5 seconds (including typing) to find enough reviews to satisfy almost anyone I met.

"Pentium M" benchmarks
"Pentium M" "Pentium 4" "FX 55" benchmarks
"Pentium M" overclocking
"Pentium M" desktop

Any/All of those will churn up a multitude of results, and require much less thought and energy than posting a long-winded rant in my direction. Try it out

One of the guys over on XS.org got one to ~3.07 on a home-built vapor phase change system. It did something ridiculous like 25s in 1M SuperPi.

Yahh, I was looking for that on their website, but I couldn't find it, so I just stuck with the 2.7 on air.

Was it Fugger or Charlie that got the 3ghz Dothan?

It was Fugger, ran it at around -47c if I recall correctly. He ended up selling it though, because he still hated the motherboard... It wasn't the DFI, it was the other one -- AOpen or something? That's the only problem with the P-M's -- the processors are phenominal, and most of the folks over at XS were able to get basically ALL of them to 2.4ghz on air without much problem (even the lowly 1.5's).

But basically EVERYONE complained about the paltry offerings for S479 motherboards. They're all based on the uber-craptacular i855 chipset which has the awe-inspiring features of single channel DDR ram rated upto 333mhz, the wonderous AGP 4x slot, a phenomenal top rated FSB of 100mhz and the best ATA-100 interface this side of a 440BX board

If you could plant an S479 socket on a halfway decent 865 or 875 chipset, it would be superb. It's amazing how well the P-M's do on the 855 chipset, but a lot of the synthetic tests show the nasty weaknesses -- namely the very poor memory bandwidth and the very poor graphics speed (a result of both a slow AGP slot and even slower supported FSB speeds). And basically all of the 855 boards out there use single-phase power regulation units, which means they're worthless for a really hardcore overclock without a LOT of modification.

And on top of all these weaknesses, those crappy 855 motherboards still go for $250+.

These Pentium M's have a downwards-unlocked multplier in single incrememnts from the max speed to 6x, so your Dothan 2.0ghz can use any multi from 6x to 20x. Rather than running 20 x 100mhz, I'd much rather have a killer board that could do 8 x 250mhz even before overclocking. Slap it on my Albatron PX865PE board with my Adata hyperram and do something like 9 x 292 and I'd be kickin' ass and takin' no prisoners!

the pentium M got 2MB of cache lol, if that thing can do 200+ FSB it'll smoke alot of P4. They need to design better mobo for these chips, they are monsters even at low FSB
