I'd avoid the socket 754, and go the 939 route. I'd go with this cpu http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-499&depa=1 and this mobo http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-123-222&depa=1
Also I'd get A DVD burner, can be had for less than the cost of the two drives you have listed there, and it can burn dvds, cds, and read dvds and cds. I would recommend maybe this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-151-210&depa=1 I would go sata with the hard drive as well, its faster, I recommend this one http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-145-049&depa=1 I have two and love them. Also didn't notice that you had a mouse in there, I'm partial to logitech, I'd recommed this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=23-126-144&depa=0
Memory is okay but this is cheaper http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-156-020&depa=1

I would also consider:
939 over 754
A NEC 3500 or 3520 Dual-Layer DVD Burner
A Samsung Spinpoint HD (super quiet and all around performer)
And a 6800NU or 6600GT unless your really need the features provided by the 9800 over the raw performance of these nvidia cards

ditto for pretty much everything. 939s are "future proof", as the dual cores "will" support them (when was the last time something like that actually happened? ;) )

I got a 52x generic CDRW at office max for free after rebates, btw.

Also, look into maybe getting a Raptor HDD (Western digital, I belive?). 7200RPMs HDDs don't really have a whole lot of improvement with SATA vs IDE, but 10k certainly do. they're expencive, but very nice.

The all in wonder is the TV capture card, right? Get it if you need it, if not, go with the 6800GT.

Make sure you check zipzoomfly.com for their prices too, I've gotten quite a few things from them that were significantly cheaper than newegg (with free 2nd day too!).

AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512K, L2 Cache, Socket 939 Windows Compatible 64-bit Processor - Retail

ok i think im going to work a little more and get this 3500+ 939

but.......... recomendations for motherboards

hmm im going to look into that raptor

for the dvd burner i'm going to stick with the lite on... i have had great sucess with lite on

for the graphics card.... hmmm nvidia... i'm always hearing good things about the ati cards... and yes i was buying the all in wonder for the tv in.... i might switch over to a nvidia..........

Ok, here we go.
i'm going to spend 200 more dollars because i want a really fast comp.

sooooo..... any problems with this order. anything else i should consider?

A Suggestion

I am glad to see you have decided to change sockets I also think that will be a better long term purchase. My recommendation is to go with a good DVD Burnner and a second DVD player. This combination gives you a lot of options that you can use now and in the future that the standard CD/DVD players do not give you(and the cost is very little more).

so i should take out that regular lite on 52x32 rw and replace with a regular dvd rom.... so i can burn the dvd off the rom rather then dling the dvd to my comp?

another thing..... how is that motherboard? heard asus it the **** :sn:

one other thing is instead of an Antec true 430 consider a Fortron bluestorm 400 for 77.50 as it is a much better PSU and it looks better to.

Also 36.7gb isn't very much for a modern gaming system.

you forgot to get a heatsink/fan for your cpu, and you need one for your mobo chipset, also you need some artic silver thermal paste. also i would get the logitech mx1000 mouse, it's a laser mouse, no that's not the same thing as an optical mouse. plus it's wireless and it has a rechargable battery that lasts forever. along side your sweet mouse, i would get a ratpadz mousepad.

my case has 4 fans already... do you think extra fans and a heatsink are needed, im not over clocking so do i really need that stuff?

i got a mouse and a pad already.

i will consider that forton power supply thanks.

thanks for the help guys

and you need one for your mobo chipset

not really that asus mobo comes with a decent northbridge heatsink, thats one thing you really dont have to worry about too much.

IMO the enermax noisetaker 420w is a better psu, just something to think about...

ok... so i need a fan/heatsink for my cpu and motherboard.... suggestions on fans/heatsinks?

thanks for da help braddahs.

well.. anything from thermalright.. xp-90 is in your price range ..with a 92 mm fan..dont matter how strong.. they work good anyways.. with as5 and maybe a lapping...

that heatsink fits the mobo right guys?... (not uptodate that much right now)
