My Acura RSX Type S A-SPEC is a Manual 6 speed. I will never ever own an overglorified go cart that is an automatic.

I prefer manuals, but my Rodeo has an auto. Not all bad as the stick shift for the same truck was very hard to shift smoothly and quickly without revving the snot out of the engine, which is fun also.

I was racing a guy last night with a Tacoma w/ a automatic( pickup) It has a 6 cylinder so it wasn't doing too bad but I've got a question. He started in 2 low, then went to 1 low, and then Drive. Is it bad for the trans to do that? I'm not very knowledgeable on auto trans but that seems weird.

Im not sure but I think 1 low is just first, 2 low is 1st and 2nd gears, etc.

Unless you mean the low range 4wd, in which case he would have ultra low gearing to scoot off the line pretty quickly.

Yeah, I was riding in the truck when he did that...... for his truck I believe that 1 and 2 low are seperate gears b/c he usually gets ahead faster when he puts it in low before putting it in Drive..... I don't know if I'd do that with my truck if I owned one, seemed a little rough on the tranny if you ask me.

Oh BTW, manual tranny 4evah

Modern automatic transmissions are all electronically controlled, and will not shift into or out or a gear unless they know it is safe to do so (for both the engine and the transmission). I often drop my automatic out of OD or into 2nd to do some engine braking when going down a hill.

I wouldnt touch an auto with a barge pole unless it was a 3.5 V6 or faster. I like being able to drop to 3rd gear and almost touch the redline while overtaking. High revving engine is a sweet sweet sound. Perhaps doing 75 in 3rd is why my clutch failed.....

i have an auto 3sp in my truck, a 1984 F250 135k miles
351w and a c6 trans with 3.73 gears
i get around 12-13mpg in the summer
i can also start out in 2nd gear instead of first due to a shift kit
but i want to get a m35a2 aka duece and a half
